Crazy matches tonight, so many final 10 game winners! Caps are looking good, as well. (EDIT: Damn. Sorry, guys!)

Alvaro Fernandez with a red card for Seattle, he'll miss the Timbers match. We need all of the help we can get right now!

Chippy game b/w Sounders and KC. another red card for Sounders and just not having luck finishing.

Ended up watching the Seattle game in Vaseline-o-vision.

Yeah. Whitecaps caught sleeping on that corner.

I ponied up for MLS Direct Kick this year, great value. Thankfully, I'm not close enough to any clubs to be subject to blackouts.

Solid atmosphere at BC Place tonight. Don't have the number but it was a good looking crowd for sure.

Caps were okay, but not great. Sad they gave up the lead so late and on a goal like that. Just weren't focused on that corner, the Red Bulls made it look easy.

Ashtone Morgan is having a hell of a game so far. Set up the first 2 goals and just about had his own. One of the few bright spots for TFC this year.

Champions League schedule just came out. TFC will be hard pressed to make it out of the group stage with this new format. All 24 teams enter the group stage now, instead of 16. So it's 8 groups X 3 teams. Winner of each group advances. And Santos Laguna (Mexico) and Aguila (El Salvador) are in the group.

Week 1
Wednesday, August 1
Toronto v. Aguila - 8 p.m.

Week 3
Tuesday, August 28
Toronto v. Santos Laguna - 8 p.m.

Week 5
Tuesday, September 25
Aguila v. Toronto - 10 p.m.

Week 6
Wednesday, October 24
Santos Laguna v. Toronto - 8 p.m.

It's a joke that TFC is in the Champions League while they can't win a game in MLS. Makes the whole competition look bad.

Timbers Army tifo today is an homage to former Hammer/Timbers player, and U of Portland, USWNT, and USMNT coach Mr. Clive Charles. Wonderful, R.I.P.

Portland needed that win badly. Handbags at the end was a bonus. Montero draws my ire.

Montero needs to take his frustrations against the ball in the back of the net rather than cheap shots.

Don't know what led to the push but stupid reaction.

Good for Portland who deserved the win. That was a hard working and determined team.

What is up with that back line? There were some ridiculous gaps yesterday.

Sounders need to refocus real quick since they play one of the best teams in the Quakes in Open cup action tomorrow.

Montero is building quite the reputation in MLS.

Regarding the Timbers' back line, their two best defenders were out yesterday. Eric Brunner is recovering from a concussion, and Hayner Mosquera is suspended for 3 games for punching a Galaxy player in the game last weekend. That was really their 2nd team back line out there.

As usual, GK Troy Perkins likely saved the day, though the Johnson goal was a thing of beauty.

In US Open Cup action last night, Sounders survive a 2nd half onslaught against the best team in the Western Conference, 1 nil.

Sounders were made up of mostly second stringers and had a totally different lineup from the derby on Sunday.

Sounders move on to the semi finals against Chivas on July 10 at Starfire. Lucky win...but I'll take it.

That's what I was thinking. But in the end, it was a bit of an ass whupping from an unlikely source. Admittedly I didn't watch the game too intently, but the scoreline sort of says it all.

Timbers get mud stomped in Colorado on Saturday, then beat the best team in MLS (San Jose) tonight 2-1.

They play much better at home, which bodes well for my trip to Portland in 10 days vs. LA, but a little consistency would be nice.

So after my work-sponsored trip to Vancouver a few weeks ago (which allowed me to see my first Whitecaps game), I was scanning the calendar for my next chance to see one. It turns out that my wife has been itching to get away, and we haven't had any time away (by ourselves) since our son was born 10 months ago. So she suggested that we arrange for grandma to babysit for a night and cash in some air miles and go somewhere for a quick getaway.

Splendid idea - how about August 11-12 in Vancouver? Oh look at that... the Whitecaps play Real Salt Lake on the 11th. Done. Although she's not a big sports fan when things are on TV, she genuinely enjoys seeing sports live (especially hockey and soccer, fittingly), so she's fully on board with my plan. The only downside is that the only available flight departs Calgary at 7:00am, which will mean a very early morning. But we'll get nearly two full days in Vancouver, a Whitecaps game, and only need to be away for one night.
