Yeah, even if it's not a 'turn on the program' thing other victims may not want to come forward for their own reasons. It could also be a complete fabrication. We don't really know at this point.
It wouldn't surprise me to see more of these cases. The role of coach enables access and power to victims, so it would be a natural path for some of these scumbags to pursue.
For years coach's got bypassed in the usual crim' record check protocols as they tended to be volunteer positions and not, in theory, in a position of power.
Of course these kind of things change that quickly.
Its sad but true that any job that involves kids will attract pedo's, they generally arn't evil genius's but they are smart enough to realise they need access to offend, and they are the ones that tend to go the extra mile, the ones that will always volunteer to do the crappy things, cleaning the kit etc.
I worked at a group home many many years ago which was very badly run and went through alot of staff very quickly, I was let go almost straight away when I complained about their child restraint protocols, a few years later a bunch of the ex staff got together to complain, asked me to come to a meeting and give my opinion, as they were complaining away about the management it became clear there was one staff member who'd been around for years, was always available to cover other peoples shifts, often semed to work alone, would take the kids out on outings etc, I thought there was something wrong straight away and started asking them more questions and finally one of the idiots (as they mostly were) blurted out 'I don't think he should be giving the kids baths'. Dropped a dime on the program and had it closed down in a week but they could never nail him on what was clearly grooming behaviour.

Vicky Triponey, who resigned her post as the university's standards and conduct officer in 2007, confirmed that she sent a 2005 email to then-president Graham Spanier and others in which she expressed her concerns about how Penn State handled discipline cases involving football players. The Wall Street Journal published excerpts from the email on Tuesday.
Paterno "is insistent he knows best how to discipline his players ... and their status as a student when they commit violations of our standards should NOT be our concern ... and I think he was saying we should treat football players different from other students in this regard," Triponey wrote in the Aug. 12, 2005, email.
"Coach Paterno would rather we NOT inform the public when a football player is found responsible for committing a serious violation of the law and/or our student code," she wrote, "despite any moral or legal obligation to do so."
Well, it seems there is something to the Syracuse accusations after all...
The Asst Coach in question has been fired, and another accuser has stepped forward. More importantly, there is a recorded conversation between one of the accusers and the coach's wife from years ago, which suggests that she is aware of what her husband was up to. Some question whether Beheim (sp?) will go down too...
More charges for these POS who will be butt ####ed and die in prison, new charges include four counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and two counts of unlawful contact with a minor. All six of those charges are first-degree felonies. He was also charged with three third-degree felonies, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and a count of indecent assault.
Sandusky along with Graham James are predators that cannot be rehabilitated. Sandusky basically used his youth program to feed his desires.
Quote:
Later, the grand jury found that during overnight stays at Sandusky's home, behavior such as hugging, rubbing, cuddling and tickling -- initially viewed as acts of affection -- escalated to sexual assaults. Additional sex acts were allegedly performed in the swimming pool and Jacuzzi of a hotel in the State College area, at times when the pool area was not occupied.
But at a news conference in Calgary, Fleury criticized the justice system for how it handled the James case.
"Graham James pled guilty years ago, and then he was granted a pardon, after he was found in Mexico and brought back to Canada on these charges," he said. "He was given bail...this is what the mighty Canadian justice system allowed a previously convicted child rapist to do."

It now appears that the third accuser has been nearly completely discredited. A very odd case, the only two accusers seem pretty shaky but there's the conversation with the wife that seems to show that something was going on.
The good gets lost when you do what he did. His comments are even more baffling, I don't know what rape on a man means? Rape is rape. His legact is tarnished, who cares how many NFL players he turned out, or games he won, what matters is he did nothing when a man he knew was raping kids right infront of him. To make it better he let them and know and thought they would follow up on it. Follow up on it? Sick and the people holding vigils for him, crying and defending him even sicker.

You have to remember that he was born in the 1920s. He may understand rape but not raping boys. Even though his defense of the situation was inexcusable, some people from that generation just can't understand the concept of a man raping a boy. When the Penn State incident occurred, my grandfather heard the news and didn't understand it. A grown man raping a boy, who does that? Must be made up. Inconceivable.

I get that, but the world has changed, and just as he evolved as a coach to stay current, I am sure he would have heard about man rape previously. Has he not heard of what goes on in jail?

Anyone offended by my Paterno jokes, please - just ignore me. You know, look the other way. Put on blinders. Pretend it's not happening.
