I doubt 1-16 will ever happen again. Use to be great but owners would complain about travel… cause you know, teams still travel by train and all.

That’s why all sports try to keep it conference based to keep it closer to each other. Imagine having round 1 vs Boston go 7 games play round 2 for New York go another 6 and 7. It will end up being bad hockey.

Not all sports really. Baseball doesn't do this since the AL and NL are not geographically based. Same with the NFL's AFC and NFC.

1 v 16 was kind of fun. The first year in Calgary the Flames played the Flyers in the second round. Oilers and Montreal played in the first round.

You'd have to change the format to 2-3-2 I imagine.

But I'm fine with trying to build conference rivalries, just would rather have 1 vs 8.
