I dunno about you guys, but i'm starting to get seriously sucked into my story line in this game (and i'm not even big into star wars lore).

First, my master is getting me to kill a high up sith so she can get a promotion (and a bigger office lol).
Then going to a dark temple and finding out this "ghost" people are scared of is my great great great grandfather and my bloodline used to be high powered sith lords before becoming the slaves we are now.

Haven't got in yet (waiting until after Christmas), but I'll be on Vrook Lamar (RP-PvE) with Leftovers. If anyone's looking for a fantastic gaming community, I'd recommend checking them out. Thousands of players are members of the community in WoW, and many have made the move to SW:TOR. Awesome, welcoming, and so many opportunities for both levelling and end-game.
goddamn this thread. i swore off MMO's after the Warhammer debacle, became a little worried when i heard about TOR, but was relieved after the first reports from beta weren't too good. but now this thread just won't go away, and everything from the game keeps looking better
i don't want to be sucked into that world again, but it seems resistance is futile

i took the plunge, pre-ordered and i'm in the early access now. and good lord, the game may almost be worth it for that intro alone. Bioware should make a full cgi Star Wars movie
in PVE players from the opposing side can only attack you in PVP matches or they can challenge you to a duel
in PVP they can attack you basically anytime they see you with or without warning
Captain Crunch, here are a few things to keep in mind about PvE and PvP.
I've bolded what I find to be the most relevant part of Muffin's reply to you. What this means is that if some 15 year old (or whatever age, d*bags come at all ages in MMO's) decides that he's bored and wants to use his lvl 50 toon to kill your lvl 25 toon over and over and over and over...there is very little you can do about it beyond log off or play a different toon where he's not around.
TOR deals with this better with giving you a couple different rez options...but if you are questing in a specific area, all he has to do is wait until you are there come back one way or another. You'd think that folks like that would have better things to do with their time...but they don't.
I almost always play exclusively on PvE servers, because the last thing I want is some bored punk ruining the 1-3 hours I have to play.
But, some people LIKE that thought, that challenge, or the knowledge that someone could be waiting around to kill them. Sadly, I find that players on PvP servers tend to 'pay that forward', justifying being jerks because "it was done to me, so now it's my turn to do it to someone else."
