Jersey sales are pretty irrelevant. And many people would simply bring back their old Iggy jerseys LOL.
Ticket sales matter, but a winning team matters most to ticket sales. So pick the best player.

But I doubt a top 10 pick in 2024 is what would be offered.
It would start with a protected 2025 pick.

If a player like Demidov or Catton falls they'll get scooped up by the Kraken in the spot we were lined up to draft in. Book that.

As of the TDL the Flames were scheduled to pick 14th. I'll take 9th.

Flames are in a good position. If we take Iginla, It won't be too much of a reach. If we take someone else, it will be justified as there will be great choices at 9th/10th.
There will be a crowd that hates whatever we do, but they really are in a good spot as far as the Iginla considerations go

Totally get that. It's just gut feeling, but for some reason I see the opposite happening: Tij still available at 9 and Conroy passing on him. I feel like the "Jarome's kid" angle is actually going to play against him coming here more than it bringing him here, but we'll see.
I'm certainly hoping we get him, but yeah not if a high end C or D starts to slip and we pass just to take Tij. I just don't see that happening though.

Was a pretty solid tank job, but it could have been epic because it's funny when you look at the standings, if the Flames had just lost that game against MTL in March and the game against Arizona last week they'd be sitting 5th OA pre lottery.
IIRC they got outplayed and outshot pretty badly in MTL game and came from behind to win the Arizona game.
Ah well.

These are some fairly unique assets... Combined with things like being able to retain/take on cap.
Offering up a '25 protected first just isn't going to come close to getting you an Andersson or Weegar.
Part of the premise here are that these 4 teams are desperate AF to make the playoffs next year.
NJ will have a bonafide starting goalie next year.
OTT will not risk giving up a lottery pick for the Dadonov thing.
BUF is the worst team in history in a hockey mad market.
DET will soon need to grapple with firing Yzerman having never making the playoffs with him.
These are desperate times. These teams will take big swings.

We should be taking a D-man here, we will have our choice of probably 2-3 quality 1-2 players possible one may become a franchise d-man they are all that good.
We have Huby, Pelletier and Honzek at LW and a stop gap in Kuzmenko, no need to add another LW in Iginla and to do so is almost negligent.
Maybe if Iginla slips to the 12-15 range we could package some picks and players then maybe we grab him but I see that as being tough. Also too much pressure on the kid and if I was his dad I'd say don't do it to him.

If a Dman is determined to be the BPA when the Flames make their selection so be it, but you don't make decisions at the draft table based on your current roster and especially not because you have players like Huberdeau, Pelletier, Honzek or Kuzmenko under contract

I do believe you should almost always go BPA.
Looking at it positional though:
Honzek over ASP was a header scratcher last year for me.
I guess you never know the info they have behind the scenes and how the interviews go. It would make drafting Tij alot easier to justify though.
With guys like Bruz and Poirier in the farm system, I think top 6 Center or top pairing two way D is the most important positional requirements for us.

We’re either winning the lottery or getting Tij - there’s no in between.

I’m going to take the contrarian approach and say not to draft Iggy Jr. simply because the pressure on him to live up to dad’s name will be immense. I just want them to draft the BPA at the spot they’re in.

If the Flames somehow have Catton or Levshunov fall into their laps I'm taking both ahead of Iginla. If Buium and Yakemchuk are also available, I'm giving it some serious thought as well.
Either way this is a good year to be in the 8-10 range as there is certainly a lump of players that will be available that are not a reach or overly disappointing either.

Who do the Flames pick? Lots of desirable directions, depending on your preference. It all comes down to what Conroy and his team's preference is. All of us fans are hoping for this player or that player but in the end.... In Conroy we trust.
