I don't know, I'd go pretty far with appeasement if jail was my alternative. I'd just instruct the refs of the Russia-Poland match to amazingly hand out 11 red cards to the Russians for dissent in the first minute of the match as a backdoor to get them out.

The right decision by FIFA and UEFA.
I think all Italian and Portuguese soccer fans can agree that it's only fair to re-draw the groups for the FIFA World Cup playoff then...
And while I say that a bit tongue in cheek, it probably the only fair outcome.
Russia was a seeded team in the draw. Just replacing them with the next best team isn't fair IMO.
A re-draw should happen, Turkey should now be a seeded team, and another team should be added.

woo it's not 1973!
Hungary would be the next team in line if they're going by Nations League spots.

Agree that it’s only fair for a re-draw with Russia being banned. Let’s see if UEFA and FIFA will do the right thing.

Ridiculous for Poland to get a bye to be honest
Either bring up another team to fill Russia's place, or re-draw the whole pot.

Redrawing the pot was obviously off the table logistically as fixtures are already scheduled and tickets sold.
They probably should've promoted Slovakia to the spot though like they did with Denmark in 1992. In that case, Denmark went straight into the tournament whereas here it's just playoffs.

Poland couldnt really complain about a new team since Russia was the higher seed, so Poland would be getting an easier matchup
Now they get a bye, and they were drawn as the home side for the final round

Yup, one of those fairytale stories. Called in as backups, go on to win the whole thing.

Format is not out yet but 3 teams will be unknown. The 2 inter-continental playoffs plus Scotland-Ukraine has been moved to June.

Ended up looking it up, I didn't know that. That is crazy. I was a young kid at the time, but just always assumed Denmark was a big deal back then with Schmeichel and gang.

Denmark were pretty big but that Yugoslavia team was insane. Youth titles then QF at the 90 World Cup as kids, should have beat Argentina, choked on penalties. Then Red Star won the Champions League. I think they would have been favorites in Euro 92 and World Cup 94. Remnants of that team finished 3rd as Croatia in 1998.

Haha! Okay...

Russia is launching a bid to host the 2028 European Championship in a challenge to the British Isles entry or against Italy for the 2032 edition, despite its teams being suspended from international competitions over the war in Ukraine.
A meeting of the Russian Football Union (RFU) executive committee decided on Wednesday to "support the decision to declare interest" in the 2028 and 2032 tournaments, the organisation said in a statement ahead of the deadline for expressions of interest to be submitted to UEFA.
"We are going to file a bid for hosting of the 2028 and 2032 European Championships," RFU boardmember Sergei Anokhin said on broadcaster Match TV.

So with the draw next friday
How do they draw the wales/austria/ukraine/Scotland one, since Ukraine/Scotland, and the final arent being played until June
Wouldnt they be in different pots?

Found it
Everyone in the playoffs, so both the intra confederation playoffs, and the late uefa one, automatically go in pot 4
That's good for Canada, if they win 2 or 3 of the remaining qualifying games, there is some, although slim, chance to get into pot 3 depending on who else qualifies
