Iceland Aurora
The Baroness and I visited Iceland last week and went aurora hunting one night. The prognosis wasn't great ("low") but the aurora is typically around; it just can't be seen. In this instance, the aurora appeared like a grey cloud in the night sky. The green was only viewable by the camera's sensor. These were 10s exposures with a Pentax 50mm lens at f1.4. ISO=1600.

The aurora is neat but I prefer the deep space objects for viewing. This is a wide field shot of Orion at 10s. You can see the Great Orion Nebula (M42) with the naked eye, but you won't pick up the colours. There is a lot going on in Orion and much of it can be viewed easily with 10x50 binos.
Just to the NW of Orion are a couple of star clusters that, again, can be seen with the naked eye. The Vee-shaped cluster at the lower left is Hyades. The prominent orangish star is Aldebaran, which isn't actually part of the cluster. The cluster at the upper right is Pleiades (M45). It is a pretty site with a pair of good binos.

Sunrise in Arkanes, Iceland
There isn't much of note in Arkanes, but the town does have lighthouses. One decommissioned; one new.
The old lighthouse:
The new lighthouse:
Pentax K-S1
DA 35/2.4
I used a true film simulation in the RAW conversion. I believe these are Kodachrome 64.
