People, myself included, are trying to make sense of McDavid's decision. I think the answer is that he just prefers to play checkers.

Does that mean he wants to get traded to LA?

McDavid and Draisaitl are currently 41st and 71st respectively in P/60.

If you look at 5 on 5 P/60, Draisaitl is 281st and McDavid is 303rd.

Those two are no good.

I can't believe David Staples said this:

Quote:
Leon Draisaitl, 6. Draisaitl gives and he takes away. Excellent goal for, terrible mistake on goal against. Kicked off his game with a brilliant Executioner’s Shot. [snip] He was called for a super iffy crosschecking call in the second. Swell pass to set up a Roslovic Grade A in the second. Atrocious play on the second Dallas goal, first giving away the puck in the n-zone, then chasing it, creating an odd-man Dallas rush. This kind of play is why talk of Draisailt being a Selke candidate is an over-statement.
Even David Staples is seeing the brutal defensive play of Draisaitl.

Have not been watching oiler games lately - are they still keeping McDavid and Draisaitl on the same line?

To be fair, every single game that is close, they are together regardless of the lines . . .

About 40% of the time at 5v5 this year.

64.9% xGF together
50.8% xGF McDavid without Draisatil
49.3% xGF Draisaitl without McDavid
43.4% xGF with neither

So they are becoming more reliant on one another this season again it seems.

Compare that to last year

66.78% xGF together
56.7% xGF McDavid without Draisatil
56.1% xGF Draisaitl without McDavid
49.5% xGF with neither

So big declines YoY except for when they can play the wondertwins together.

Leon Draisaitl has 7 even strength points in 15 games.
Mikael Backlund has 6 even strength points in 15 games.
Jonathan Huberdeau has 7 even strength points in 10 games.

Leon Draisaitl plays 3 minutes per game more than Huberdeau and 5.5 minutes per game more than Backlund.

McDavid with 6 points 5on5. But, is tied for first in NHL points. More than ever the formula to beat the Oilers is very simple. Keep out of the box.

Easier said than done given how poor the officiating can be in a lot of their games.

My question is, did someone hack Staples' account?

I think most people -- good people -- should look deep, deep into their hearts and know that E=NG.

Except no one else outside of Edmonton was talking about Draisaitl for the Selke.
