I wonder if I can make my own frame bag and just buy the seat bag.

How much stuff can you fit in the seat bag?

I have a pretty small UL backpacking kit that fits a weekend worth of food in about a 25L pack. So putting Sleeping bag and pad on the handle bars in a dry bag I have, I should be able to fit the rest into the seat bag, I think. At $130 for the seat bag doesn't seem terrible if I can limit it to one piece.

How do you pack your stuff.

The seat bag I have from Revelate is amazing. Super suprised at the amount of stuff I can fit in there. I have the small version as I wanted to force myself to pack ultra light. I packed all my clothes in the seat pack. On the trip I got back from I packed:
-Swim shorts
-1x Socks
-1x Underwear
-1x Cycle Top
-2x T-Shirt
-1x Base layer pants
-1x Trekking Pants
-1x Toque
-1x Base layer shirt
-1x rain jacket
-1x fleece top
-1 pair sandals
-1x ultralight towel

It was amazing how much I could stuff in there.

I carried my mattress and sleeping bag on the bars, had a freame bag that carried food, tools, wallet, phone, misc stuff and my seat had the clothes and on top of that i bungee strapped another dry bag with food.

My friend was carrying the tent and stove in his panniers so I got off a bit easy. Would need a bit of a different setup if I was alone.

I'm looking at ordering a 6800 Ultegra groupset (compact) for a new road bike build. I am a road bike newb, but I want to riding and building experience. It will be $650 shipped, so I think I can figure out my frame, bar, wheels, etc. for a decent build.

I am looking for opinions on 11-25T vs 11-28T for the cassettes. For Calgary paths and some mountain trips, what would you guys recommend? I will not be an all-star out there... but I want to build for right now and for how I will develop.

This wind has really been testing my determination and will to ride in the AM. I'm already whining in my mind at 6:00am about the 4:00 ride home.

The Cycling "AKA complaining about wind" Thread.

Yesterday afternoon ride home SUCKED, wind right down the pipe on the nose creek path. 15knots gusting up to 25. Added about 4 minutes to my ride home.

^ perhaps the carbon tax will get more folks out of their vehicles and riding bikes and then the global warming will stop, and the climate will shift back to the way it was in the good old days when it was not as windy or the wind was mostly at our backs.

for the first time ever i have ridden to work 4 consectutive days - total mileage of about 140 kms. (I can't ride tomorrow as i have a mid-afternoon appointment).

I really enjoy seeing posts like these. Keep it up!

When I started biking to work, the one way trip was about 3.7 kms. There were times when I was too exhausted (out of shape) to bike on Fridays. Now my route is about 10 kms each way, I've given up my parking pass, and I'm doing 250-300 kms of riding each week. That didn't happen overnight, but hitting milestones like biking in all five days is awesome. My goal this year is to bike more than I drive.

Work is moving downtown next Friday, my easy excuse for driving will be gone (I am too cheap to pay for parking). It's also a lot shorter so I will be aiming for a 5 day bike commute again for the first time in years. I'm sure my waistline will thank me.

Cycled in and around Okotoks with a double chariot behind my mountain bike on the weekend. Those things are not easy to pull up hills with 2 infants in it.

My 2 yr old was blowing bubbles out the side of the thing while I worked my ass off to get it up the center street hill. I'm sure they had a GREAT time lol

Does anyone else pull a chariot without helmets on the kids? I tried to put them on, but one kid yanked it off, and the other kid let it fall in front of her face until I noticed and put it back. Ended up just taking both of them off.

Opposite for me. I had great intentions of biking to work until they moved our office out of the DT core. Now it's a 27km trek one way, and probably way more than that taking bike paths into consideration.

My present one is about the same as that. bike it a couple of times a week if you can, you'll feel pretty good about it.

If your a small guy you could probably get away with the 11-25 for here and the mountains. I'm not small, I used the 11-28 and it does everything I want it to do around here and in the mountains (highwood, norquay, etc).

here is my thought on this topic - in the Schwinn child trailer that I used to own, the child was belted into the seat in a 3 point harness, so even if the trailer was upside down, the child would likely still be in their seat, and somewhat protected by the frame of the trailer.

Given that I was mostly riding on the paths/sidewalks and I was riding far slower and much more prudently, I was not really concerned about the lack of a helmet in a trailer.

What are the bylaws on it?

My Chariot is the same, it is a 3 point harness with full aluminum tubing around it. Worst they can do is smash each other in the face I guess.

I would worry about their heads smashing together.

Also, you should tighten their helmets if they're falling forward of their heads.
