Joe Philbin is the new coach of the Miami Dolphins.
Matt Flynn to Miami next season?

Philbin will be better than McCoy imo. I really have nothing to base that on but he has experience running a very good offense and that is what Miami needs. I would think that Flynn is not far behind and that will allow the Fins to likely draft someone for OL help.

Lots of Chip Kelly to the Bucs rumours... Any Oregon fans able to tell me what to expect (other then lots of uniform combinations)?

Will that coaching style translate to the NFL?

Doesn't matter apparently. He's staying with the Ducks.

I don't even understand why the Bucs wanted him. Chip Kelly is a great college coach, but the system that he's known for and he developed wouldn't translate well in the NFL. He might get that one good season (like the Wildcat and Tebow option) before it is figured out. He's done well at Oregon and would be foolish to test the NFL.

Don't quote me on this but apparently Chip designs his system around the talent he has on whatever team he's coaching. Supposedly, the offence he ran at New Hampshire (where he was the OC) apparently was completely different from what he runs at Oregon (more pass heavy) aside from the up tempo nature of it. I think it would take some time but Chip would see success in years 3 or 4.

Well also take into account that college coaches rarely succeed in the NFL. Saban, Petrino, Spurrier, etc... The list goes on and on. What makes you think Kelly is any different? And if you think Kelly is better than Saban then this discussion can end here.

Better, no probably not (although it's tough to argue Kelly wouldn't win if he had the talent Bama has) but he's definitely more innovative. Wether that would work in NFL will remain a mystery.

Everyone wants the next Jim Harbaugh hiring. But before him, who was the last college coach to some in to the NFL and have an impact?

Problem is, you need to show something in years 1 and 2 to get to years 3 and 4. Look at how many 2009 Head coach hires, are now gone. Most of them didn't get three full seasons, and there were guys who had teams who made the playoffs in one of those years who still didn't last 3 full seasons.

Great point, and I actually think this is one of the reasons chip turned down the bucs offer. In order for him to make the jump I think he'd need to find a situation similar to pete caroll in seattle, where he's essentially given the "keys to the castle" and not be expected to win right away.
At the end of the day I'm just happy to have the guy back in Oregon next season.
