I've been meaning to ask but did they ever say what happened to Jay Boy? He seemed to just vanish one day and I never heard a word about him again.

I believe he was part of the cuts they made awhile ago.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Wasn't one of the reasons they fired Jay was because he couldn't (or wouldn't be any good at) handle hosting duties if he was needed to step in? Thats a load. The guy they have now seems nice, but doesn't have the chops for that either. Doesn't make a lot of sense. Jay had terrific chemistry and would basically have Rhett's role now.

One thing I have really enjoyed with the new format is the lack of replaying the same segment from a couple of hours earlier. In the past if you heard something in the 7AM hour they replay it in the 9 and the same in the afternoons where the 5 o’clock hour was mostly a replay from what they had on at 2.
With the podcast format they treat each hour as its own and I do like that

I once had a job that started at 5 am for 10+ hour shifts with a 35-40 minute commute plus security check ins and a ten minute walk through the building itself to get to your post.
Even most 'morning' people would be challenged by that one.
I always marveled at the people who lasted in that job, who would show up early just to chat and were always in good spirits.
Me I couldn't deal with the 8:30-9 pm bedtimes that all but eliminated social outings and the physical demands of it for more than several months.
Weekly pay and good compensation was nice though.
I don't know how the radio guys do it, aside from making the show/shifts as fun as possible.

I could wake up at 5am to be at work for 6am no problem . Especially if the work day was 3 hours. Once I saw the pay check I might think different though.

Nault is the worst, man.
Truly the male version of that Debbie Downer character.

Assuming the Fan folks occasionally look in on this thread, the below is directed at whoever puts together the Podcast version for Boomer in the Morning:
1) Thank you for the dedication to podcast listeners such as myself. Things like the 1 hour segments are appreciated.
2) There are 15 second audio drops that occur 2-3 times per hour, where it goes to about 50% volume, then spikes back to full with a "click".
3) Examples from the Hour 3 March 28th podcast with the (brilliant) 9 to 5 parody at the start:
Drops at 0:10 seconds in, then at 0:18 goes super loud.
0:37 it drops again right as the song starts
5:47 it drops, then there is the "click" at 5:56 and it returns to normal
29:36 it drops, the "click" is at 29:54, and it returns to normal.
There is almost always an audible "click" when it jumps back up. I listen when walking to and from work, and I've noticed it for several weeks. At first I figured it was phone notifications or my airpods (or Rhett leaning back from his microphone), but testing it with just playing the audio it occurs at the times indicated.
Decided today to call it out with the specific times when I heard it.
Thanks again for supporting the podcast version.

THIS! I love that we can get the morning show on podcast now, but the audio levels are infuriating. It's not that hard! I will literally do it for them if they like!

Maybe, but almost everyone went back to to the office, months ago. I think it was more of an excuse not to go to work

Nope.
The guys didnt go back to the studio as a group til February as mandated by SN.
All of them, sans whoever was producing that day, worked from home.
You dont need to be sitting beside each other to do radio.

I've still been working from home and a lot of our company is choosing to do the same.
Perhaps you'd like to judge us too?

If it lowers the quality of your work, sure. 960 has had some glaring audio quality problems with people working remotely.

It could also be the reason why he's no longer there. They could have mandated him to return to the station in person and he may have made the choice to opt out instead.
Which then you could ask what makes for a better morning show
- Rhett at home, with some audio issues (that I have not really noticed, though I only listen for maybe 20 minutes each morning)
- No Rhett at all, no audio issues.
I think these questions are being wrestled with by many companies.

His last day was negotiated with Kirsch so it’s been in the works for a while.

All jobs are definitely different. I would think that hosting a radio show would yield a better product in person where they can take non verbal cues from each other. But they seemed to do a pretty decent job while remote IMO.
I say let the market decide how things balance out and maybe that is what happened here.

I think the keen listener, would notice the difference. I produce live audio, for a living and constantly try and edit remote interviews to try and make it sound like they’re in studio.
Not to mention when you’re taking audio clips recorded from a novice or someone using a webcam microphone, it can be very hard to stay engaged, when listening to a podcast or live radio.
