You can if the argument is that they lack depth.

St. Louis and Stamkos are among the worst defensive players in the league.

They're also two of the top guys in scoring this year. For a crappy team doing nothing with no depth, those two sure are making things happen.

I don't disagree. They also have players like Hedman (a former 2nd overall; a terrible one, but a 2nd overall nonetheless), Purcell, Lecavalier, Carle... That's a better roster than the Flames.

Debatable. It's a more glamorous roster than the Flames for sure, but it is extremely thin at all positions. Don't forget that Tampa plays in the worst division in hockey with a considerably easier schedule than Calgary yet they are still worse.

It would be kinda neat to have the following I would think in like 4 years or so:
Monahan 6' 2" 18 years old 22 years old in 4 years
Gauthier 6' 5" 18 years old 22 years old in 4 years
Jankowski 6' 3" 18 years old 23 years old in 4 years
Backlund 6' 24 years old 28 years old in 4 years
As your 4 centers for a long time. Calgary would be ecstatic if all 4 turned out as Good to Very Good centerman.

Stamkos I agree with you, St. Louis I think you are out to lunch, he is great in all three zones.

That's not what I've been hearing from Tampa fans these last 2 years.

Exactly. I love Brodie and all, but he's not going to get you Myers. Myers could probably net the Oilers 7th overall pick + a decent prospect if Buffalo was interested. I think Myers would be exactly what Edmonton needs.

Myers is more valuable than Brodie right now, but he has the hockey sense of a shoe.

I think Feaster's going to move to get into the top 4. What about:
To Tampa:
STL 1st round pick (~20th overall)
Alex Tanguay ** Flames retain 1.75million salary (Tanguay at sub 2mil is a great bargain)
2014 2nd round pick (may be in the 30-40 overall range next year)
To Calgary:
2013 1st round pick (3rd overall)
Draft order:
1. Colorado - Jones
2. Florida - MacKinnon/Drouin (not sure who they take here)
3. Calgary - MacKinnon/Drouin/Barkov (if MacKinnon's gone, have to decide on C/RW)
4. Nashville - Drouin/Barkov (whichever's left)
5. Carolina - Lindholm
6. Calgary - Monahan
Potential to come out of the draft with a franchise C or W plus a solid potential top 6. Now if STL goes on a tear in the playoffs, and their pick is in the late 20s instead of around 20th, you'd probably need to add more... maybe add Brossiot?

Change the Blues first rounder to Calgary's first rounder, and the 2014 pick to a first and Tampa might do it.

I can't see Tampa re-acquiring Tanguay at any discounted price after the his spectacular performance with them the first time.

Why would TB be interested in that deal at all?
Tanguay is an older player on a okay-bad deal and the St. Louis pick is likely 50/50 to turn into an NHL player with a roughly 10% chance of turning into a top 6/top 4 defenseman.
There is a decent chance the guy they pick is better than Tanguay as soon as halfway through next season and if not likely by the 14/15 season.
I am not sure they make that deal if you put our pick in for the St. Louis pick.

Yah...no. Tampa had a look at Tanguay's act a few years ago and he was a total disaster so I don't think they'll be giving up on a potential franchise player to get him back.

^ Understandable. To be honest I forgot he was there before.
I'd figured Tangs was fine the first half of the year. Admitted himself he got disheartened when Iggy was traded, played like crap after that. Tampa's weaker on the left side at the moment, could use a playmaker on the PP, etc.
Trying to think of what we could offer Tampa to move into 3rd, and keep our 6th... Brossiot? Granlund? add the PIT pick?... probably just pipedreaming.

It would be awesome if it happened, but I can't see a situation where the Flames move up without giving up the 6th pick.
Don't think any of the teams drafting top 5 would want to give that up for a late round pick + player alone.

There is pretty much nothing we can deal without including our pick to get into the top 3 and even with our pick it seems very unlikely that those teams move out.
It makes very little sense for them to do so, especially for what the Flames have to offer.

I still think the #2 pick overall for the #6 pick, the ~#20 pick and a 2014 2nd round pick is fair... question is, does Tampa do that?
