I hit a seagull once. The darn thing flew right into my radiator. Just saw a splash of feathers. Had to do a full detail after that...

Me either. Then 2 of these guys so close together. My daughter was laughing at me because I was doing this excited little dance back to the car, across the road.
It was a good critter day yesterday. Wasn't able to get shots of everything but we saw 3 moose (one cow/calf pair), tons of deer, a big herd of Bighorn, a big herd of Elk, a Red fox and these guys.

Just got back home from a trip to Japan. What an amazing country! I've traveled extensively because of my work and been to almost 30 different countries around the world. But I've never been this impressed: starting from the overwhelming feeling of being welcome by the Japanese people and ending with the overwhelming feeling of everything in that country made to make its people's lives more convenient and comfortable. On the former, I don't necessarily think they LIKE foreigners much (in fact, Japan with the population of 130M, accepted an average number of 16 refugees per year in the last 30 years); but they don't show it at all - even the complete strangers we met there went out of their way to be helpful, polite and friendly.
Special thanks to our resident Japan expert and CP user scrambler, who had given me a few really good tips on traveling there.
I made over one thousand photographs on the trip and just started processing them. Some are decent, some are too "touristy", some are too trivial and you might have seen similar ones elsewhere. But a few came out surprisingly good. They will be loaded here eventually.
The two shots below are just for sample. First one shows a strange group of Buddha statues I discovered behind a small prayer pavilion in the giant hillside park surrounding Daigoji Temple in Kyoto, which is not overly popular with tourists. They look unkempt and hidden covered in dead leaves and dry tree branches.
As you leave Japanese temples, you can drop a coin and leave a written wish tied into a bunch. These are the wish bunches at Daigoji.
If you have any questions about a specific photo in the album of Japan, in general, let me know. I'll try answering it as best as I can.

Oh man, I recently dove into my Japan photos again for the canvas sale and ended up processing a whole bunch I missed last year. I'd take a return trip over any 5 star resort at this point.
The bad thing about Japan is that it kinda ruins everywhere else on earth for you. You're "making things more convenient and comfortable" comment is right on the money, everywhere else is a damn drag afterwards.
Calgary Transit is absolutely infuriating after a week on Tokyo's trains.

I hear you. I already want to go back and spend more time. Their transit system is beyond anything else in the world. But... their public debt per capita is also the highest among developed nations, I believe. Convenience comes at a huge cost.

Well, I've learned a new word today. Thanks, Minnie.
BTW, they are very small, only 2-ft tall, at the most. I had to lie down on the ground to make that shot.

 You're welcome.
It's creepy to some, I suppose, but have you ever gone into the old cemetery in Banff? There is some great statuary there. It's quite a historical little exploration too, on the families that settled the area, and what we figured must have been the big flu epidemic, considering the amount of graves in the same time frame, and the ages listed on the stones.

I picked up a fish eye lens a few years back, finally got around to taking a few pictures around downtown with it.

Well I don't know your entire situation, and I've only spent a week in Japan, so my sample size is small. But... you're making a huge mistake. Stay put.
