He said he didn't think he'd be traded once Darryl came on board. That was my hope as well.

Yeah, after the trade was done I thought maybe they might have asked him if he still wanted to be moved and he said yes. When Sutter was hired I thought maybe he would change his mind.

Obviously he did change his mind as he was happy under Darryl and did not think he would be traded. Definite fuel for the fire BT crowd.

No take backs, locked in. Had to do it. Risk was losing s good player in the expansion draft if we did not male the trade.

BT gets paid alot of money to not realize that Monahan and Giordano should've both been exposed

Fans can argue until the cows come home but ultimately you expect better from your GM of 8 years

Proof it's not a collection of the 32 most elite hockey minds in the world

It's just the best cronyism can buy

They were always going to lose a good player in the expansion draft.

The whole thing (league) is an old boy's club. Merit is barely a thing IMO

Um, okay, so when did Treliving become an "old boy"?

Was it when he played low level pro-hockey as a defenseman on his own merit?

Was it when he co-founded his own entire minor league? Any merit in that?

Was it when he managed to make a successful merger of his start up league with another league? Meritocracy?

Was it when he was hired to be AGM of the Coyotes and also run their minor league affiliate (San Antonio Rampage), after proving he had strong executive skills based on his previous experience?

Is any of this sinking in with you?

Critique him all you want for the job he's done in Calgary. He's had a mixed record for sure. But claiming he only has the job because of an "old boys club"? Seriously, GTFO of here with that. You're just grasping at straws.

When old boy Burke hired him?

I don't know, I'm just saying it's really weird that he's still employed. He's Jim Benning in red

Citing time with the Coyotes and some dead D class league is pretty good stuff though.

The resume is mediocre at best. Beginning to end

A sea of nothing

If Brian Burke hired someone from the old boys club Dave Nonis or Dave Poulin would be our GM.

Bill Daley and Gary Bettman think the world of Treliving. They raved about him when the Coyotes were owned by the league.

He is not a perfect GM but drafting and player development has significantly improved.

His big flaw is not going on vacation on Canada Day.

Doesn’t mean it’s cronyism
There are valid reasons to want him gone
We don’t have to make up things

Maybe Bill Daley and Gary Bettman should hire him then? Some sort of nothing position because he's clearly not GM material

As an aside, the whole founded his own minor league and merged with another doesn’t get talked about much. All I have ever heard about that is basically just wikipedia level detail. Seems like there would be a movie in there somewhere with hockey teams in Waco, Texarkana among other places.

I really have no idea what his role was or what he learned from that. But probably not someone I want investing my money if he thought it was actually a good idea.
