Tavares' contract goes until his mid 30s with a full NMC, while taking less to play at home.
Matthews contract will, at max, bring him to 30 and he can not have a NTC for the majority of the contract and he isn't even Canadian. While the RFA years have to be accounted for we're still talking about a player who's averaging over 40 goals pro-rated, and he just turned 21. If he wanted 10M+ there's 31 teams in the league offering him that and soon to be 32.
He may, like Tavares, take less to keep the team competitive, but everything points to him getting 10M at least.

Sam Bennett's TOI was once again the lowest, 7:01.

This early? There are none. At least none that would provide any sort of upgrade on what the Flames already have.

So whose minutes do you cut to give Bennett more ice time? Definitely not Johnny or Tkachuk. An argument could be made for Ryan, but Bennett just doesn’t cut it at Center. The whole 4th line of Bennett-Jankowski-Frolik were within 15 seconds of each other and pretty much earned that TOI. The top two lines were creating lots of chances and Dube hasn’t earned a demotion. Bennett will get his chances through injuries I would bet and it’s put up or shut up time for Sam if he wants to be a top 6 player.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get a little more. Something in the $12.75m range. It might not happen and he might end up around $12 but if he gets more it wouldn’t shock me in the slightest.

They should make Bennett-Jankowski-Neal the third line.
I want to see development out of those 2.
It's funny Ryan has had a bad face-off percentage so far and that is one of his alleged strengths. I think he and Frolik should be on the 4th line.
I know it's way too early but I was unsure about the signing of Ryan and it was less to do about him and more to do with what I thought it meant for players like Jankowski and Bennett.
I like competition in the ranks don't get me wrong but I just hope playing <8-10 mins isn't a regular occurrence.
I know there has been a lot of PP time the first 2 games so that may be why they have played so little.

Sure. You win. Awesome asset development.
Seriously, Ryan and Dube have earned it. Bennett, Janko and Frolik are worthy of goon level minutes.

Jesus, calm your tits. Face it, Bennett isn’t going to supplant anyone in the top 6 with his current level of play, so 3rd line minutes is the best he can hope for at this point. Again, a case can be made to decrease Ryan’s minutes, but that would require Sam shifting back to Center. I would have zero issues with Sam getting Ryan’s PP time. I don’t see how Dube has earned a demotion at all. His effort has been fantastic and he has created good scoring chances. Tell me, when does Bennett’s lack of production fall on his own shoulders, instead of having excuse after excuse made for him? It sucks he hasn’t lived up to expectations but it isn’t like he has been given zero opportunities in the last 2 seasons. He’s just failed to capitalize on those chances.

I think we should try out bennett-Janko-Neal, but to say Bennett and janko have earned moving up in the line up with their play so far is disingenuous. Both have been mostly invisible/ completely ineffective so far this year.
I would like to see one used in a package for a goalie

Yeah with 13 powerplays in two games you end up with a lot of powerplay time versus five on five and that hurts any fourth line on any team for deployment. If it went the other way they'd all be at 12 minutes with 5 minutes of PK time each.
Ryan btw is 56.5% on faceoffs through two games.

So you are of the belief that Draisaitl and Nylander are better players than Pastrnak?

I've been saying now for 3 years that Bennett's skillset doesn't translate well to be what the Flames need in the NHL. He's a bottom 3 NHL guy or an excellent top 6 AHL guy.
For the 3rd year in a row, trade Bennett and get a return before his value drops anymore. This team has tons of potential for the foreseeable future so let's add another piece, Brad.

I think there is more to it. I think the coaches are wanting those guys to fight harder. Coach said in a recent interview that if a player thinks he is an offensive guy he has to earn it. I thought that was directed a Bennett. I don't want to look for the quote but will if asked

Aberg back on waivers after Ducks claimed him from the Oilers. If the Oilers are the only team to put a claim on him, they can put him directly into the AHL.

And it's a deep team that has averaged 6.5 powerplays in the two games. There's only so much five on five ice time to go around if you're not on the man advantage group.
Right now they deem Bennett and Jankowski to be at the back of the bus.
