I'm not defending the media's performance...they stank and because of the sensationalism that sells ads they dropped their role in a liberal democracy.

It's kind of funny that some people can't see the media was mostly in the bag for Clinton in this election. I wanted her to win, and it's obvious that the media should have been in the bag for Clinton because Trump is Trump, but they were and I don't think there is anything wrong with admitting it.

This is incredibly rich coming from a guy who supports someone that said vicious, horrible things, voted in by a party that included plenty of supports who were just "butt hurt" because people kept telling them they could say vicious, horrible things.

Funny.

There is a reason why guys like McCain, Obama and Bush Sr. were treated nicer.
This is a really good point. Clinton was a relatively popular and successful President, but even after he left office he was made fun of, because he gave plenty of ammo. Palin was mocked for obvious reasons--but McCain never really was, because there wasn't much to make fun of there. The Obamas haven't given much reason to be made fun of (though Biden certainly has).

And let's all be honest here, Trump was being mocked in the media long before he even announced his candidacy. He has always provided plenty of material, and now he's just creating more and more with every tweet.

With regard to the media being "in the bag" for Clinton, I think that the media did believe she would win, that it wasn't much of a contest. As such, in attempts to appear "fair," they gave her "scandals" as much screen time as Trump's. Only Trump had far more scandals to deal with, so it ended up being a really false narrative in the end. Trump received thousands of hours of coverage through the primaries and the general election, and if people literally only watched CNN/ABC/NBC/CBS (not even going for Fox or MSNBC, they're each clearly partisan in their own ways), they got this false equivalency that Clinton's speeches/emails/foundation/health were just as much an issue as Trump's "foundation"/racist language/conflicts of interest/sexual harassment and assault accusations/"University"/refusal to release necessary tax information, etc, etc, etc.

I think they expected Clinton to win, so they garnered ratings by treating her as if she was just as bad as Trump, and in the end it burned them.

Who is suggesting that this is what free speech means? I'm not defending Zamler here, but I don't think he or anyone else said that and it's a ridiculous position so that's not all that surprising.

Pizza-gate turns into some real world scariness.

This is serious.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...ng-restaurant/

Quote:

A North Carolina man was arrested Sunday after he walked into a popular pizza restaurant in Northwest Washington carrying an assault rifle and fired one or more shots, D.C. police said. The man told police he had come to the restaurant to “self-investigate” an election-related conspiracy theory involving Hillary Clinton that spread online during her presidential campaign.

...

The restaurant’s owner and employees were threatened on social media in the days before the election#after fake news stories circulated claiming that then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and her campaign chief were running a child sex ring from the restaurant’s back rooms. Even Michael Flynn, a retired general who President-elect Donald Trump has tapped to advise him on national security, shared the stories. None of them were true.#But#the fake stories and threats persisted, some even aimed at the employees’ children. The restaurant’s owner was forced to contact the FBI, local police, Facebook and other social media platforms in an effort to remove the articles.

Witty: i dont disagree with what you say. I cringe when actors and comedians are unfunny and go too far. In a country divided how can their material bring the other side towards them by mocking them. They are bring counter productive by continuing.

Let the news agencies lift the rock and expose Trump as a fraud with real stories. Tell people why they are voting agsinst the interests. CNN really needs a 5th Estate type show.

Outside of this, lets see how Trump governs. This might the new way of governing in 2016. I so far like some things and hate other things

Why should they start now? There was one reporter in the entire media that bothered to do their job and seriously investigate Trump's shenanigans. That would be WaPo's Farenthold. What did it do? People ignored it because Trump was so good at burying the lead with outrageous tweets. He had the mass media eating out his hand with each and every stupid tweet he made. If the media had ignored the tweets and instead gone after his connection to foreign interests, his connection to Russia, the Trump Foundation that was put under investigation by the State of New York, Trump's taxes, Trump's connections to organized crime, Trump's connections to Wall Street - especially Goldman Sachs, and so on and so on. Total failure by the media because they allowed the campaign to be turned into the cult of personality.

I'm really curious about this. What things has he done that could be construed as being good?

Seriously, if he does some of the things he's talking about we're headed back to the days of no social safety net and the economy ruled by the robber barons. How would you feel if Trudeau privatized CPP and the Canadian healthcare system? I don't think those things should be exposed to the volatility of the markets. How would you feel if all collective bargaining rights were taken away, along with the many benefits promised in past deals? Think about those things in that perspective.

I should google "free speech means you can say anything and no one can tell you you're wrong"? That's definitely not a thing. Maybe in the Sun news comments, but I doubt it.

I also blame the disruption in the technology by which news is distributed...you have news institutions competing on the internet with fake news for the same clicks that generate ad revenue...as well has having self selecting channels of information where you only are exposed to the flavour of news that reinforces your beliefs.

The media channels are so fragmented that even if you had the highest standards, you would be competing with a cacophany of crap...

Unless big spenders in advertising choose to put their $ into ethical media outlets the business model of news media is enabling this for the foreseeable future...

Yeah Flynn used the #SpiritCooking hashtag too, which was from the belief that Podesta was attending a dinner that was a dark satanic ritual.

In Canada CPP and Healthcare are entrenched. Can never be touched. Just the mere mention of even a two-tiered system nationally gets you roasted. I think we have to go on what a candidate ran on. Harper raised OAS to 67, that probably killed him. Nobody campaigns on these things so it's never an issue.

Trump ran on killing Obamacare and getting jobs back. It's questionable whether Obamacare is working or not. Sure the number is 20 million people get coverage for for everyone else premium have gone up again. What he is replace it with we'll see. It's not like killing a system such as Canada's healthcare. It hasn't happened yet so its not one of the things I like or hate yet.

The Carrier deal is good. It's something he promised on his campaign. Hillary didn't even bother to go to Indiana remember so the optics look good. Sessions being appointed Attorney-General is a good move. He'll address the immigration issue. Immigration is not a race issue, it's a numbers and migrant issue. For too long the Democrats were afraid to address it in fear of being called racists. Sessions will take the criticism to fix the problem. And for selfish reasons I loved the Taiwan conversation pissing off China. Anything that pissed off the PRC is good in my books instead of once again the Democrats tiptoeing around these issues.

Things I hate. The tweeting. I do like that a president isn't so elitist that he can tweet but that stuff is just out of control. I'm sure it will be addressed when he's actually in office. The Bannon appointment is troubling because it legitimizes Breitbart as a legit news source.

But for most things. Its wait and see.

A comedian has no responsibility towards 'bringing the other side towards them' the only responsibility they have is to the laugh. If it gets a laugh, the comedian is doing their job.

I wouldn't mind the Taiwan thing if it was part of a plan but we all know it wasn't, by all accounts a business partner of Trumps rang up the Taiwan Goverment to enquire about development opportunities at an airport mall, the Taiwan Goverment then asked if they could set up a call with Trump, this was done with no knowledge of the implications what so ever.
The Prime Minister of Australia got through to Trump after calling Greg Norman, the golfer, and getting Trumps cell phone number off him.

What we are watching is just chaos and chaos is dangerous.

Cameron's already gone after Brexit (which he supposedly supported), Hollande is despised so much he's not even bothering to run for reelection because he has no shot, Renzi fell today after his overwhelming defeat in Italy's referendum, even Merkel has weakened and Obama as we all know is being replaced by Trump.

The industrial world has a lot of problems on their plate; chief among them the same issues with employment that defeated Clinton.

Well, considering that a huge problem that has been pointed out during this election is that people are too locked into their "bubble" I guess it's not entirely implausible that you wouldn't know about it.

This may be an issue with differing life experiences, but "free speech" has absolutely been used to justify hate speech and the right to say whatever you want unquestioned in my experience. And it's not just the Sun news comment section, though that's probably a good spot to find it.
