Why is Chatwood in a high leverage situation?

Chatwood finally didn't pull a Chatwood and allowed the Jays to not pull a Jays.
Good game - bats remain our sole saviour

Romano pitched 2 innings yesterday, Dolis is hurt. Who else is there? It’s so thin right now…terrifying but chatwood was the best option.

Castro and Payamps should be an option in these situations at this point.

Montoyo trolling all of Blue Jays Nation with Chatwood. The balls on him.

They are options, but they’ve been bad too.
Castro has given up 7ER over his last 3IP (5 outings)
Payamps has had 2 recent clean outings so he might be on the upswing, but had a really rough patch in the few outings before that.
Chatwood had that awful stretch, but was excellent before that and had pitched 3.1 scoreless innings over 4 outings heading in to this game, so he’s also been better of late.

I think they’d prefer a higher strike out option for the high leverage stuff which does rule out Payamps for sure and Castro to a lesser extent. Romano, Dolis and Chatwood are all high K guys but all have warts. Dolis and Chatwood both walk way too much. Romano walks less but any runner on base for him is a guaranteed steal. We really need Borucki and Merryweather back soon since both have better control.

Pretty much every game now somebody from the bullpen comes in and gives up some runs. It's not just one guy, it's every guy....except for Romano, but even he usually allows a base runner or two and is treading on thin ice if you ask me.
The bullpen is a complete mess. Even Murphy, who I was looking forward to having come back, got rocked the other day for multiple runs.
Need Merryweather and Borucki back, but even when they come back you're just waiting for them to get injured again.

The Rays have lost 6 in a row and just got swept by the Mariners. They're getting a shot on the arm though as it sounds like top prospect Wander Franco is getting called up finally.

Yeah the Jays finally seem to have caught a little break on the out of town scoreboard lately. Except for those damn Yankees. Who won a game after turning a triple play in the 9th. Their 3rd triple play turned of the season. Seems like all the other AL East teams are getting some crazy luck.

Stunning signing of bringing Axford out of retirement from the broadcast booth to the mound. Tells me the price of relievers is too high. Strangely enough, probably a leadership move to settle guys down. I'm curious how he'll look because it's definitely strange.

I guess he was touching 98 just a couple weeks ago in the Olympic qualifier.
Doesn’t mean he’s got the goods but it’s a start for sure, and worth a look in the minors to see what’s there.

Are they starting him in the minors or just starting him in the bullpen right away?
