Yeah, we lived in Evergreen Estates at that time. There was no c-train past Anderson and there was no Evergreen or Bridlewood, etc. That was the deep south at the time.

. There is no such thing as the far south or the deep north. So adjectives don’t work with all directions. There is no far west either only the far east.
Deep South is just South of fish creek

Oh dear. I wish that were the case.

Deep south for me is south of Fish Creek
Far north is past Country Hills Blvd
Glenmore to John Laurie I would classify as city. Those places in between are mid city.

This works for me.
I think it really comes down to where you live, what you're familiar with and what your travel patterns are... So not surprisngly, everyone will look at this differently. Heck, to Sliver, the LBC is probably "downtown". To me, anything east of Deerfoot and/or north of your "Deep North" is the airport/birthday party district (anyone with kids will know), but literally nothing else.
I even grew up near Avenida and would consider it "deep south" today.

The speculation is fun and all, but there is already a perhaps pseudo-official map that I think the real estate board makes, or something. Anyway, here it is so you can each disagree on a different part of it. But inner city is definitely south of McKnight near centre.

Kingsland and Legacy in the same "section" of the city is hilarious.

My related peeve is how Calgary is obsessed with vague quadrants when describing locations. The media is especially bad with it.
"There was an incident in the city's southwest." Sure, but where?
"That restaurant is in the northeast." Ends up being in Bridgeland. Technically it is NE, but not "the NE". Just say Bridgeland. Saddleridge and Bridgeland are miles apart - literally, culturally, etc.
Just use the community names. They eventually get to a more specific location eventually, but it is so vague that it is nearly pointless to even start with. Cut to the chase.
Get off of my lawn while you're at it.

It would be nice to drop the quadrant from your street address if you’re not on a numbered street. It’s barely possible to fill in most forms with how street names are and the high house numbers.

Ya, probably need to divide that into deep south, or far south or whatever. But I think the more prescient point made there, is it's best not to even care. It's just all sucky south.

Anyone know what's going on at what appears to be the Coca-Cola plant just west of Barlow? There's some kind of ~six-story structure going in, and I couldn't tell if it was scaffolding or actually part of a structure.

Also how old you are and when your sense of the geography of the city formed. In 1978, there was still a drive-in theatre at Anderson and Macleod. In the mid 80s the C-Train ended at Anderson and there was #### all south of Fish Creek. If you grew up in the 70s and 80s, Woodlands was far south.
As the city doubles in size in the next 25 years, the perceptions of far North/South will shift again.

With map apps it's not really relevant anymore what system cities choose to layout their roads.

The media is purposely "bad" with that from what I was told. People tend to read articles on crime/incidents/stories that are close to home. So the "serious stabbing in SE" gets more citizens clicking/reading just to see where specifically the incident happened. As opposed to "serious stabbing in Temple" which would have thousands of potential clicks gone with people going "yep, that makes sense".
