Way too quick with the hook.
Sure, Montoyo trusts Phelps. Great. But you have to read the situation - Castillo was pitching great and his pitch count was still low. Montoyo pulls the plug too quickly too often, putting poo much pressure on the pen

See? Gilbert can get out of his own jam after two singles. 100 pitches.

Yup, pitch counts are important over the course of the season, but you have to be able to recognize that there are days where your pitcher is on, and you can let him go a little longer than planned (because there will also days where they aren't on, or don't need to go longer).
Montoyo is a slave to pitch counts, and as a result, the bullpen is in almost constant distress.

If/when the Jays lose this game I seriously hope they leave Charlie in Seattle. It's an off day tomorrow. Let Schneider take over in the interim. Change it up. Enough is enough with this losing brand of baseball. Watching a team like Seattle who is significantly behind the Jays in terms of talent just completely dismantle them by playing the game the right way is totally disheartening.

Unbelievable.
Another dropped ball, and bam - a 2-run homer and the lead for the Mariners

Cimber up 0-2 and misses with a pitch right over the plate. Sure Moreno missed that pop fly but that is all on Cimber completely missing his pitch.

So 2 runs in the 5th that shouldn't have happened, then a run in the 6th that shouldn't have happened, then a 2-run homer in the 8th that should have been a solo shot
That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

Jays and Mariners will be tied for the last playoff spot after today. Jays had a double digit lead over the Mariners a month a go. Unreal. Two teams going in very opposite directions.

The first mistake was Montoyo yanking Castillo too quickly, and then everything unraveled from there.
And on that note, if he leaves Castillo in longer, he probably doesn't leave Cimber out for the 2nd inning, because the entire bullpen usage slides down an inning.

I’m 0-4 and sleepless in Seattle. Brutal, didn’t get to witness one win.
