I'm trying to figure out what Dougie was doing there. Sure, there was one player away from the blue line along the boards, but it actually looked like Dougie was worried the boards themselves were going to go around him for a scoring chance. That left one of the biggest openings I've ever seen a defenseman give up the middle to the net.

And to be fair, Slavin with a pretty poor defensive play there as well by overcommitting at the puck and letting the man go by. That was the most surprising part of that video since Slavin is normally a pretty good player.

We are seeing what Dougie really is when not sheltered by a ~top 5 D in the NHL (Gio and Chara)

Don't want to pile on Dougie, after Hanifin had a good game, love having Lindholm, had wanted him since his draft year. Fox is still the wild card, he will probably sign with the Rangers, but his numbers so far this season are crazy, 4 goals, 13 assists, in 8 games.

if NHLe calculations are correct, that translates to 49 NHL points... which would have put him at the 20th highest scoring D man last year...

which is really good, but not a superstar... I also have no idea of how good a defenseman he is considering size and skating ability...

the way that Hanafin and Lindholm are trending however, i still think Calgary comes out winning that trade in 3 years.

His height will be something he needs to overcome in the bigs. I know people said that about Johnny but as a D-man it’s gonna be harder. Most of the elite guys are 6’+.

Doughty: 6’1”
Karlsson: 6’0”
Burns: 6’5”
Chara: 6’9”
Gio: 6’1”
Hedman: 6’6”
Josi: 6’1”
Klingberg: 6’2”
Keith: 6’1”
Klefbom: lol, just kidding

On Fox, i don't know about elite, probably more of a Ryan Ellis type of guy. Nice numbers in the NCAA, the NHL is quite a step up.

This trade is working out fantastic for the Flames. They truly look like a different team this year and for the better. Both Lindholm and Hanifin are playing like young former 5th overall draft picks.

This deal could work out well for the Canes as well if they sign Fox. Ferland looks like he will hit at least 20 goals this year again. Hamilton has struggled a little bit but he was always a second half player.

This could be a win-win trade but at this stage it is absolutely a win from the Calgary side. Thr Flames have these guys locked up on great contracts for 6 years. The Canes can likely sign Ferland but that remains to be seen. Fox is a Wildcard and Hamilton is 3 years away from his big payday.

Looks like Ferland has been diagnosed with a concussion.

By that do you mean a terrific puck moving defenseman?

Because he isn’t on Bouws level.

Maybe we win this trade for reasons unexpected. Hope not.

This is starting to look like a fleece unfortunately. If Fox/Ferland don't sign, it's a disaster for Carolina.

anyone have video of the concussion?
This must be his 4th since being in the league...

I hope he can stay healthy the rest of the year and get a big pay day (from someone in the Eastern conference), or even better, a moderate payday from the Flames!

Why is that unfortunate? About damn time the Flames were on the right side of a fleecing, if you ask me!

Unfortunate for Ferland and the Canes sure, but that’s not how I read it.

I can't find a report that says how it happened. It wasn't a fight (I cringed every time he fought after his major one).

Cold blooded, but I think Treliving must have taken Ferland's injury potential into account when assessing him in terms of trading. Concussions can be recurring and progressive, so stuff like that makes shortened seasons and careers a real possibility.

This is going to impact his next contract.

A rookie d-man who puts up 49 points might eventually become a superstar LOL.

Although I'm not sure I would use 8 games of college hockey as stats sufficient to predict pretty much anything.
