Yeah, the buyout is long but it’s almost nothing

Depends on what the value of 10 million bucks is to the owner. He is a guy who has a reputation of squeezing every nickel out of the budget. If 10 million bucks is worth a slightly lower return on Necas maybe he does it. On every team, at the end of the day to varying extents, the owner is the GM. Not every hockey decision is a hockey decision. If I was the Flames I would definitely do Necas and JK.
The Flames could give JK two years to prove his worth and then if he sucks buy him out for 6.8 million cash and 850K on the cap for 8 years in a worst case scenario.

Yeah the thing with Kotkaniemi is that his cheap buyout is still available for three more years. No issue giving him a trial run.

I’d do Mangipane for KK and a pick.

So you would trade Markstrom + Pelletier + 1st + 2nd for Catton?
JFC people over-value draft picks and prospects

People also underestimate young core players value
Quality beats out quantity
Now is Catton that guy ? Who knows . But we don’t need more depth young players . We need superstars

Yup. Not sure if prime coffey or gretz or lidstrom would get ya in the top five in a good not great year lol.
Like catton as a pick but not if dickinson, or buium is there. Also if you get catton you could pull yakemchuk at ten and cover two positions we need. Would rather take buium or dickinson or lindstrom at six. Yakemchuk, hage, helenius at or if catton happens to fall.
I just cant justify using a top ten on a winger unless its demidov.
Two picks in the top ten with the defensive depth this draft has and we come out with a winger? Buium, dickinson, Yakemchuk, parehk a mix of two of those could set up our defence for a decade.

Trading 4 assets for Catton is not the most likely path to acquiring superstars, IMO. If you think Catton is a good bet to be a superstar, well then knock yourself out I guess.

So you would trade #9, #41, and Pelletier for #5?
In a draft where 4-12 are considered a toss-up?
Great asset management. I, too, love quality.

4-12 may not have a consensus, but I can assure you that individual GM’s don’t consider them all equal.

Sure, that doesn't mean that the players in the bottom half of that group (a good, but not stellar draft group) is worth Markstrom, Pelletier 1st and a 2nd

To get superstar that sometimes means you have to accept the risk that accompanies the "star" ceiling.
Eiserman and Demidov look to have that upside, but both come with question marks.
Catton looks like a safe bet but doesn't jump off the page in any extraordinary way. Probably a 2/3C in the NHL.
But this is the range the Flames are drafting in.
On D, if you want a chance at Karlsson-lite maybe you take a flier on Parekh. The only d-man that out-produced Brz this season.

The lack of consensus should mean moving up should be cheaper. That poster could think they are trading up to get Iginla at 5 and getting Catton at 9.

You really think so?
Sandman has Catton 4th on the list.

Catton feels like any of these other small guys that put up big numbers in the WHL recently and went early teens. E.g. Jarvis, Benson.
They've all been pretty successful early on in their careers so far.

So trying to find what draft picks are “worth” I found this site
https://puckpedia.com/pickvalue
To move up from 9th to 5th , it’s suggests fair value is the 2nd (41) and a 2nd (43)
So the question is how much more is Pelletier worth then the 11th pick in the 2nd round ?
If you take Pelletiers draft spot (26th) the site actually says that pick and 9th is equal to a 5th overall
Now has Pelletier increased or decreased in value since being drafted 26th? I would personally say decreased but who knows what teams think . I think he’s worth more than the 43rd overall pick , but by how much …
I also have no idea how accurate this sites valuation on picks is

I actually would like us to draft Catton, to be fair.
The team could use a solid C prospect like that.

Any of the available centers.
Lindstrom,Catton,Helenius.
If there was a way to get into the middle of the 1st round, Micheal Hage would be a good grab too.
Either way, trading up isn't worth it. Unless they were absolutely 100 percent bullish on a single prospect, the pool available in the top 10 are worth letting the chips fall where they may.
I believe the Flames are happy where they're at.
