Two years ago the world was introduced to Shapo as he played the match of his life to take out Nadal. Let's hope he regains some confidence here and continues his upward trajectory after a great Rogers Cup!

Shapo is a game away from round 2 after taking the opening set 6-3 and is leading 5-6 in set 2 with PHH serving trying to force a second set tie-breaker.

Shapo breaks PHH to get his first ATP tour win in 76 days 6-3 7-5. The Montreal crowd certainly helped him tonight.

Good job Denis. He was a little shaky but got a win for the first time in awhile.

Tough 2nd round match coming up against Dominic Thiem - If he can get off to a good start and get the crowd engaged, Denis could certainly pull off the upset.

Very doable for Shapo as Thiem has never won in Canada.

Wow, I think that's the best set I've ever seen Peter Polansky play as he wins the opening set over Monfils in a tie-breaker.

Yup. Same here. He sure is feeding off the crowd's energy.

Geez, Polansky had two break points at 15-40, but couldn't get the break and we remain on serve in the second set.

Monfils takes set 2 6-3 as Polansky's level dropped late in that set, but Peter is up a break in set 3.

Too bad, Peter had a real chance for the upset tonight, he just seemed to ran out of gas.
