"Commence with this project"?
Someone teach the premier how to English. Also tell her she doesn't need to quote herself in her own tweets...

I love Calgary as much as the next person here, and I know it's just a nice platitude on her part in the interest of her messaging... but really? Perhaps our Premier should travel a bit and maybe visit some other places across North America before saying something like this.

So Smith didn’t appear to offer new no strings attached funding so this is a non announcement.
Also it’s very modern conservative to subsidize the wealthy.

This is just Smith setting herself up to be able to bully Calgary into accepting whatever deal is out there, and that her support was "always neutral". I suspect it will remain neutral until about 28 minutes after the first offer is out there.

Smith knows her chances hinge on Calgary. she's going to be bribing the #### out of the city and a lot of people are going to go for it.
I'd bet money she'll soon send a letter offering full support to Calgary for the winter olympics, too.

Danielle Smith was given the job of President of the "Alberta Enterprise Group" in April of last year.
Murray Edwards is the chairman of the board at Alberta Enterprise Group.
Murray Edwards is an owner of the Calgary Flames.

Ummmm unless I'm missing something I think you're misreading that.

Edwards is quoted on the page endorsing the AEG as "Chairman of the board for CNRL".
He isn't the chairman of AEG, that would be MARLEA SLEEMAN - BOARD CHAIR.

It's insane to me that our government openly wants to review(see: defund) healthcare after the madness that was/is covid showed major holes in the system while openly advocating spending hundreds of millions of dollars on a private business so the billionaire owners can justify charging more money for the same on ice product, which is a bunch of 20 year old men slapping rubber around with sticks

Just shows she's worked with (for) M.E. and now is trying to use her newfound influence to get the billionaire hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to build his team a new arena- nothing to see here?

I think Catherine Brownlee is the President now, no?
Either way, this is very fishy and too close to the chest (re: bus boobs) for the Premier to be commenting on.
Really should have let Ric McIver deal with it and struck a lower profile.

What Smith is describing doesn’t quite align with the idea of a legal pardon, said Lorian Hardcastle, an associate professor at the U of C’s law and medicine faculties. That’s because Smith’s comments specify outstanding fines, while pardons would apply to those who have already been convicted.
Pardons are typically granted at the federal government level, Hardcastle said, including the 2019 launch of a pardoning application for those with criminal records for simple marijuana possession.
COVID-related fines issued under provincial legislation don’t fall under that process. Smith has the jurisdiction to create a pardoning process for Alberta, but the government would have to introduce legislation and a legal framework to do so.
“I’m not sure how many people would apply for that, though, because a record that you’ve been fined under provincial legislation doesn’t follow you in the way that a Criminal Code offence follows you,” Hardcastle said.
The issue of amnesty for cancellation of fines for pending charges doesn’t come with the same legal barriers, Hardcastle said. But it does raise concerns about blurring lines between Alberta’s government and its justice system, institutions kept at arm’s-length by design.
“Her language suggests that perhaps her intention is to actually interfere with those that are working their way through the system,” she said.
“We, for good reason, generally allow prosecutorial discretion to lay charges and prosecute individuals under validly enacted laws, and we generally frown upon, for good reason, politicians interfering with the process by politicizing it, which is what she seems to be doing.”

My vacations center around music fesitivals and watching bands, and I'm out most weekends watching live music. Calgary might not have the second best music scene in Alberta.
