Lol at the notion that there is a thing called "true comedy".

Well, the BBC censored The Germans episode of Fawlty Towers on their streaming service, so there is reason to be worried. People seem to have a hard time with the difference of laughing with and at.

Interesting.
As an Indian myself, I've yet to meet any other Indian who is even mildly offended by Apu.
I assumed this whole thing was just woke white people making an issue out of something trivial we didn't care about at all.
Me, my family & friends all loved Apu.

And there’s a level of Archie Bunker humour in the good seasons. It’s funny how ignorant the residents of Springfield are and Apu is the low key genius working at a convenience store.
I can’t speak to how he was portrayed after about S10/11 to when they banned the character.

I thought they back tracked because John Cleese complained or some ####.
Art should not be censored. It’s idiotic to even talk about banning or dropping from a streaming library movies like Gone With the Wind, or Blazing Saddles or whatever.
Aunt Jemima et al are marketing gimmicks and have no value beyond $$ and brand recognition.

Gone with the Wind isn’t being dropped they are adding context and interpretation with an educational preamble. This seems very reasonable.
The problem with exempting art is that the difference between propaganda and art or porn and art is entirely up to the person viewing the work. I like the concept of adding interpretation Whether it’s adding information to the front of GWTW or a Lenin Statue graveyard in the Ukraine.

Yeah, she grew up in interior BC, so I think it's possible it may have more to do with ####ty racist white people making Apu jokes at her, but there are things she's pointed out as we're watching as racist that kind of flew over my head.

I have always loathed the Austin powers movies, but after what my ancestors did to most of the 3rd world I just figure I just have to suck it up buttercup as a small act of atonement, no one wants to hear white English people complaining about racism

Reallly? I never thought they were making fun of the British. They are making fun of James Bond movies and other fictional characters.

That’s not the problem with art. That is art.
“They” should not be adding context to any art. Save that for MoMA.

Well then you can watch Gone with the Wind in any on of the numerous services which offer it without the added "context". (Personally I'm quite skeptical of such attempts, but I don't mind them trying.)
It's "their" choice to do it on their platform, and if you don't like then don't watch it.
The world is changing and people are trying to find a middle ground between propagating quite obviously harmful and false views of history through outdated movies and film, and keeping beloved classics on the air in situations where the latter are also the former.
I fail to see the harm, and I really fail to see why people would be against this, as it does not in any way stop you from enjoying the film just like you did before.
(Unless of course part of your enjoyment was the romanticized view of the South and slavery, in which case it's probably good that someone pokes at that enjoyment a bit.)

So you are okay with a museum adding context but not a streaming service?

I'm not sure you can watch Gone with the Wind at the MOMA. I would think it would be the opposite anyway. We leave museum art up for interpretation while adding context to art in society either by tearing it down or leaving it up.
I wonder how many people will be saving their last bottle of racist syrup as a collectible. I can imagine seeing them on Kijiji for sale by idiots for a hundred bucks.

Colorado with more changes. Goodbye qualified immunity! Keep protesting because regardless of the narrative that some people want to push it works and works well.
Quote:
The measure eliminates the qualified immunity defense that protects police officers from lawsuits and it now allows them to be sued for misconduct.
The law also bans chokeholds and limits other uses of force and prohibits police from aiming non-lethal weapons like tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters’ heads, pelvises or backs.
The new law requires all local and Colorado State Patrol officers who have contact with the public to be equipped with body cameras by July 1, 2023. Unedited footage from body cameras must be released to the public within 21 days of the filing of misconduct complaints.
The law bars police from using deadly force against suspects they believe are armed unless there is an imminent threat of a weapon being used as suspects attempt to escape
Grand juries under the law will be required to release reports when they decide against charging officers accused in deaths.

When a major newspaper of record asks staff to flag any articles that make them uncomfortable, it's pretty clear cancel culture, safe spaces, and woke evangelism have spread far beyond campus radicals.
The Fang mobbing is particularly disturbing. An accomplished investigative reporter tweets an interview with a black local who wished more attention was paid to the killings of black men by other black men. A colleague is outraged, the usual twitter outrage mob descends, and he's brought before H.R. and forced to issue a statement of shame and atonement. And keep in mind, this isn't even for a comment Fang himself made, but one he just reported. A comment by a black man. The chilling part is none of his colleagues put their necks out to defend him publicly, though I'd be willing to wager many of them didn't see anything wrong with the tweet.

What parts about those movies are "racist" towards white Englishmen specifically?
Maybe we've had it wrong all along and characters like Dudley Do-Right and Terrence & Phillip are racist towards white Canadians. I guess that's just our atonement for how we treated our indigenous peoples.
