This deal at 20% came together just today, can’t be mad at it.
The best part is we’ve acquired all this draft capital and have some really nice pieces to do it again next year!
Conroy confirmed they had more offers that were pick based for both Coleman and Whitecloud but wanted to keep both as leaders who want to be part of the rebuild. Makes perfect sense as there’s no rush to trade either of these guys.
|
Happy to see Coleman and Whitecloud staying. You want to have players that want to be here. Plus we need some veteran leadership to help develop our prospects and younger players.

It's also good to see the Rangers weren't able to move Trocheck, and the Blues kept Thomas, Parayko, and Binnington. The Blues also brought in Drouin in the Schenn deal.
That should help both those teams stay ahead of the Flames in the race to the bottom this year.

Yeah the pieces left to sell next deadline could bring plenty more draft capital.
Coleman
Frost
Strome
Hanley
Farabee, Whitecloud and Maatta will all have 1.5 years left but could also be trade chips if their value spikes.
Conroy just doing a bang up job rebuilding assets IMO

Oilers went all in and landed some depth forwards and a bottom 6 D.
Ducks, Wild, Avs, Utah all added more pieces while already being better teams.
Even the Kings got better.

Oilers got older and traded away more of the draft picks. Just watch what happens when the older players retire or move on.

I am so happy with this deadline week. I will give a full analysis later, but I like the direction the team has taken and if you are on team rebuild it would be almost impossible to be upset at the outcome.

Pure winning by Conroy this week.
Been saying it all along, Kadri was the business at hand. Most time sensitive issue. Good return, and does good by the player.
…and we get a Weegar deal on top of that?
Coleman value holds to next year no issue. Very low buy on Strome, I liked Otthman years ago and I’d tend to agree it’s a win for Otthman getting away from New York’s development system (lol what system) - I think it’s a buy low situation on him as well.
Just an absolutely awesome year for Conroy.

Been outta thanks since early today...but do want to say THANKS to all the positive posters who recognize that deals take time and the pace of them is just that...pace.
i am SO happy that Conny is our GM and didn't/doesn't do some of the things suggested. The guy is a rock. Listening to the two sets of him on 960 was like a breath of fresh air, reiterating some of the more sensible comments made in this thread and putting to pasture some of the others.

I just didn't see it likely that they'd add a 5th (or 6th) center to a team without someone leaving.
Add in the lack of "Flames are done" from the team or the media (and the Coleman and Lomberg staying without mentioning Kadri) and it felt obvious Kadri was leaving.
Going to be some lean years.
Really intrigued to see what July 1st looks like this year ... hoping the Flames can do some one year deals on guys that didn't get the pay day and dump at the deadline.
But man watching the waterfall of young talent come in for four years or so is oging to be a blast.

I wonder if the Flames get involved with the RFA market. We do have the flexibility to target some young players that are more sure things, given how many assets we have accrued.

You are right in that there will be lean years ahead, but I really believe that this is the hardest season to watch in terms of entertainment.
Next season these players will be on the team:
- Parekh
- Gridin
- 2026 1st round pick selection
- Brzustewicz
- Honzek (who was full time until his injury)
Then you may have others popping up for looks and maybe even earning an unexpected spot:
- Wiebe (who I thought was a a throw-in!)
- Castanga
- Curran
- Stromgren
- Wyttenbach if he doesn't return to the NCAA
- Suniev (who has been really picking it up in the last while)
I think starting next season, the Flames will be more exciting to watch, but you are absolutely right in implying the lean years with respect to lack of winning - wins will be hard to come by, I am sure, but it should be more fun to watch, and that's a good trade-off. Unless it is a deep run in the playoffs, I prefer to watch a fun and exciting losing team, than a boring mediocre team, so personally I am very excited for next season.

interesting. will have to stay under the 4.6M or so threshold, as our own firsts really can't be risked in this exercise but an interesting point

Hoping for Castagna to turn into an NHLer - the Seinfeld memes/gifs will be awesome.
