Does having Strome give flexibility in the off season (draft) to trade Kadri / Coleman and stay cap floor compliant? Otherwise I am having trouble making sense of this.

Surely kadri is on the move. A team in the flames situation doesn't add a 5 million dollar 32 year old center for a (late) pick at the deadline to strengthen your team as your only move

They moved 2 in the last month or so. I think they need to keep Whitecloud, so the only two left were Pachal and Hanely and they aren't worth getting fussed over as far as returns go.

This just doesn’t make any sense at all. Something must be coming. There’s no way the only thing that happens, is acquiring Ryan Strome at 5M for this season and next. I have faith in Conroy.
But it would be hilarious in a very dark way if we find out Boomer’s joke is actually correct, and the Flames did make the Ryan Strome deal in preparation for deal(s) that fell through.

I think a team like Carolina could have used him. Yeah he makes bonehead decisions and dumb penalties, but no different that Bennett. He was pretty impactful in both of the Oilers cup runs. Why not take a chance on him for a late pick?

Big picture I'm just happy at all the signals the team is rebuilding. Being in this spot, having dealt Ras and Weegar, 2nd last in the league and in no rush to build it up, I'm encouraged and would have been thrilled with this direction a ~year ago.
I'm disappointed TODAY that they couldn't get in on the action in a more meaningful way (barring a Kadri miracle) but cannot wait to see what our Hockey Ops does with all these picks.
