Me before the season: with all that’s gone in with Covid and the US drama over the last four months I’m not gonna get worked up about the oilers or sports net. It’s just a game.
Me two nights into the season: Jesus Christ, how many times do I have to hear the name mcdingus and the greatness of the oilers. F***!!!!

The Oilers looked like complete garbage last night. They were completely outplayed by a team on a back to back. Now don't tell me the Oilers were on a back to back too because they didn't even show up night one.

The Canucks were all over them but Hughes and Petterson couldn't keep their sticks from breaking during glorious scoring chance after scoring chance. Mostly due to all the hacking and slashing the Oilers get away with up the ice.

You could see Tippett's adjustments from game one were for the team to not play, just go stand in front of Kostinem and let McDavid take care of the offense.

Demko wasn't sharp enough for the full sixty in his first game, so McPointless in game one found a way to squeak in a few while the rest of the team played hunker down in front of Kostkinem and ride it out till the storm is over. Larsson even spent an entire penalty kill on his stomach beside the net like an 8 year old who can't play defense in NHL21.

With their only strategy of collapsing four in front of Kostinem while Draisaitl or McDavid sit at center ice and McDavid needing hat-tricks every night, this team is basement bound.

That derpth

Did Kostinem get hurt last night, or is Smith joining Neal on the COVID sick list?
Forsberg claimed on waivers again, by the Winnipeg Jets.

Winnipeg claimed Forsberg off waivers. Of course, now they have the same problem that Carolina had with him: They can't put him on the taxi squad without putting him through waivers first.

The Jets were ahead of the Oilers on the waivers priority list.

Between constant waiver claims and the league's COVID protocol for changing teams, the guy could spend the entire season in the NHL without ever actually being able to play.

It would be funny if the Flames put in a claim with Rittich being away. Anyone know if Rittich is still in Canada, or is he in Europe?

Hopefully things have made a turn for the better with his family.

You wouldn't even know McDavid was playing last night from the Jets TSN feed.

It's like they were focused on the game at hand that was being covered, and not another/rival's one.

Amazing huh.

Not surprising, considering that the entire Sportsnet network seems to be run by 80's Oiler fan boys and girls. I would really welcome a Flames move to TSN in the future. Cannot stand all the Oiler cheerleading on Sportsnet. It makes me ill.

I went and looked at the ESPN shot cart, and jesus christ the Oilers allow a ton of shots from the high slot to right in front of their net.

I heard somewhere today that he didn't leave Edm yet so he won't have to quarantine to go to Wpg.

I think in normal times anyone leaving Edmonton to anywhere should require some level of quarantine.

Just the normal hose down is required for that, little extra soap maybe.

He wasn't there long so he should recover quickly.

Wow do I not envy their goaltending.

You have to imagine it's going to hurt them big time somewhere down the line. A lot rides on Koskinen being adequate or better indefinitely and not tiring out.

They don't have a back to back until OTT on the 31st. But if he plays every game until then, that will be 10 games in January.

That's a pretty heavy load.

Sort of a double entendre there, I think you really put the team as a whole into perspective.

So it is like this...

Kostinem is the starter and ever present hope.

Smith the backup is now on ltir; COVID isolation is 14 days or another ltir worthy injury.

Forsberg (the previous third choice) is now a jet.

Skinner (the previous fourth choice and now #2) is now the backup and an overworked Kostinem injury away from starting.

Greaserville’s “braintrust” decided to recall the de facto 5th choice Rodrigue from the Austrian league thus taking No Goodness to Europe as they negatively impact yet another team. 14 day isolation and travel protocols mean that February is the earliest that Rodrigue can join the taxi squad to not play as the #3 goalie.

Seriously, the oilies couldn’t find another goalie that could “not play” on a taxi squad anywhere across Canada? Couldn’t swing a trade to give someone a shot? Couldn’t find a goalie for a PTO? Nope, nope and nope.

I tip my hat to the jets for messing with greaserville.

Was there any doubt?
