Meh, I'm assuming top 5 picks are all the forwards. Flames have to pick between Nylander or on of the dmen.
I am coming around to being fine with either. If they do go d, am very curious who they have as the top d on this draft.

Don't know a lot about Brown other than ac couple of highlight reals but i'm starting to come around on him and would also be fine if Flames took him #6. Nylander has great talent, but i'm not sold that is the kind of player flames are looking for.

In Corey Pronman's mock draft today, he has
4. Oilers: Tkachuk
5. Canucks: Chychrun
6. Flames: Dubois
7. Coyotes: Nylander
plz
Says he believes the Flames are very high on Dubois.
Also says that some teams have Logan Brown around their top 5 while others don't even have him in their top 15.

Strictly based on what the team representatives have said and what I have seen in terms of scouting reports, I don't think there is much/any chance we take Nylander. I think Brown is the 3rd man on that 4-6 tier, with outside chance of Jost.
This is a very exciting draft in terms of speculation about our pick. The last few have been much less exciting. The Jankowski draft was all "crap", so it really didn't matter that much, the Monahan draft it was clear we were getting Monahan or Lindholm, and the Bennett draft it was clear we were taking a Sam. This one is up in the air.

would love it but out of Tkachuk and Dubois falling to #6 i think its a greater chance that Tkachuk falls to #6. No chance IMO that the Canucks take Chychrun over Dubois.
Unless flames trade up to grab Dubois, i don't see any hope that they get him.It sucks because Dubois was the player i was hoping the flames would get before the draft lottery. Now it pains me that he will be playing on one of my 2 most hated teams.

I'm expecting neither will be available but will simply be ecstatic if either Tkachuk or Dubois are there at 6.

Would it be all that shocking if the Flames traded up with either the Canucks or Oilers?
Flames have likely 3 second round picks this year and could use one to move up to get their guy if the Oil or Nucks have interest in a Dman.

On the radio the other day they had Sam Cosentino (Sportsnet Junior/prospect guy) talking about the 2nd group of Tkachuk, Dubois and Nylander and he said that he likes Dubois overall game the best and he would be the guy that he would take if he was in the position but mentioned that he thinks that Nylander has the highest offensive upside of the group. That kind of softened the blow a little bit for me and makes it a little bit easier to accept that Tkachuk and Dubois will likely be gone when the Flames get up to the podium.

It would be kind of funny if the Oilers drafted Nylander after the situation where his dad committed to sign there and then backed out when his was a UFA

That would be such a Lowe move. Then he schedules a dinner meeting at a retro Edmonton Steakhouse and agrees to trade him if he gives his bonus check back. Chiarelli is the waiter in this scenario.

After watching the videos of these players, I think I'd want Nylander over everyone but Dubois. I just don't see a ton of skill in Tkachuk's game.
But I trust our scouts, who have made the right call more often than not of late.

Pronman on Edmonton radio discussing the top end of the draft:
http://www.tsn.ca/radio/edmonton-126...our-2-1.483568
His conversation starts around the 2:00 minute mark.
He says Dubois vs Tkachuk is a coin flip.
Says Tkachuk has the more dynamic skill. Dubois is the safe, smart, get it done in every situation, but not take over the game player. The ability for Dubois to play C will likely be the persuasive point in a team taking Dubois over Tkachuk.
On Keller, he says he has heard NHL people range him from 5-12.

I am starting to lean towards Tkacuk if there is a chance we could get him.
I was looking back at drafts to 2007 and the top player from the OHL in their draft year always tends to end up being a stud (outside of Yakupov).
Top players from the WHL, QMJHL, & US college tend to be more hit and miss but the top player in the OHL always seems to be a star.

Would you move the #6 to Piitsburgh for Fleury and Daniel Sprong? Get a goaltender and a Nylander type forward on the RW. Thoughts?

I wouldn't but it's mainly because I don't have faith that Sprong would develop properly here. He's got all the skill in the world, and I think he'll need to play with some good veteran forwards (i.e. Crosby and Malkin) to get the most out of it. He's in what I believe is a good situation, and I wouldn't want to take the chance of ruining him.
Value is ok though, though I think it's an overpay from Calgary.

I don't see how GM's like Benning can say that the defenseman in this draft can be good top pairing #2 defenseman. Don't most good #2 defensemen have all the tools to become a #1? How can someone be sure a 17 year old with those tools can't become at #1?

Interview with Logan Brown. The only thing I have against him is he chose the USA.
Quote:
The 2016 Draft Spotlight tonight will feature one of the top ranked players in the Class of 2016; Logan Brown of the Windsor Spitfires. The 6'6 center also played for USA at the recent World U18s in Grand Forks. He's considered by every a 1st round talent and Craig Button has him in his top 5!.

I would definitely move a 2nd to Van to swap 5 and 6. They need prospect depth, so they land their top choice D and another prospect and we get whoever Edmonton doesn't take at 4. Win / win?

Not really - if only because we are going to be doing the Penguins a favour if we take Fleury off their hands.
If Murray continues to play this well then the Penguins are going to be desperate to move Fleury - because if an expansion draft occurs they are going to have to protect him with his NMC and expose Murray.

Neither player is worth anything close to the 6th pick individually and I don't think they are worth anything close combined.
