Been rumoured/speculated the past couple weeks that he's unhappy in Pittsburgh and would welcome a change of scenery, so who knows.

I think I would welcome Hodgson here. I thought when he was in Vancouver that he would be a good 2nd or 3rd line centre. He is a big body who play RW as well. Sign him for a year and see how it goes.

Like others mentioned he will have likely better fits elsewhere but maybe he just needs a little kick in the butt, Hartley and co. are good at that. There is more leadership here to help him get on the right track too.

I don't think Malkin is traded this off season, I think closer to the deadline next season. I think Pitt tries for one more season of making the playoffs and then we see a rebuild. I could see him wanting out to become the star of a team. He is a star and one of the top 5 players in the league IMO, who would he waive to go to? Florida? Tampa? LA? Now that would be scary if he was in LA.

So that means the Pens are going to be nuking the team it seems and going into full rebuild mode again.
What? No it doesn't.

I think that rumour was determined to be false not too long ago.

I've been day dreaming for like 5 minutes on our line up if Malkin was on the Flames....

Is the lineup decimated in your day dreams? Because it would be after giving up the assets that would be required to land Malkin.

What ever happened to the once promising Jussi Rynnas? Just read that the Stars are letting him walk this year.

Mutually terminating his contract so he can go play in the KHL.

Barret Jackman has been told that he will not be re-signed by the Blues and he can test the UFA market on July 1st.

Just trade Raymond straight up for Hodgson. Raymond hasnt delivered here and maybe Hodgson can give it a shot

I love the way the Flames are doing things now, take a bunch of chances with smaller pieces and hope they work out. We don't need a single big bad contract; no Hodgson's, no Phaneufs, no Richards. Could you imagine if we had signed Brad Richards for 9 years... Calgary is on the right track. Stay away from huge contracts that are not our own players.

More Joe Colbornes no Kessels, no Malkins, no Richards. The road to victory is with small risk big reward situations, Joe Colborne may one day turn out to be the best trades for us ever. The way he elevated his play in the playoffs was like printing money.

This team has been built through good drafting and some shrewd, low-key roster moves. It's no surprise that it seems to be working; there are no shortcuts to building a consistent winner.

How many goals did you expect from Raymond? How many do you expect from Hodgson?

Raymond was a little underwhelming, but his gpg and ppg weren't horrible. And compared to Hodgson's stats he's way more productive.

I think the fear with Hodgson has to be his skating. It was never great - and as the game is seemingly constantly speeding up - he may longer be capable of being an effective player if his other attributes aren't strong enough to counter-act poor skating.

No to Hodgson. Period. A player with alit of tools, just never really put it all together. May one day, but perhaps the game will pass him by in the meantime.

As for Malkin, I could see the Leafs or Wings going after him. Datsyuk and Malkin would be pretty filthy.

That said, Kessel alongside Crosby would be pretty crazy.

Kessel, Kadri, Nylander for Malkin?

Like someone mentioned, I could see Sharp end up here, or Williams (as UFA). Sharp is costly and could be sort of semi-replaced internally by CHI with cheaper contracts.

Both have decent size, can/will line up on the right side, shoot right, produce when it matters and play solid 2-way hockey. Sharp, signed for two years - doable for sure. Williams on the other hand is probably looking for term.

Hodgson, no thanks.

Malkin, yes please, but at what cost? We're looking at Monahan/Bennett + 1st + prospect + roster player (likely winger, perhaps Colborne or similar). Hmmm, on second thought.

Franson, yea, but he's going to cost an arm and a leg + term.

As well as Wideman, Russel and Engelland played for us I still think we need a solid #3 to anchor that second pairing and/or handle extra minutes when necessary. Do you like Oduya, yea I do (sorry, had to). Again, pricey and will likely want term (he's 33).

Don't get why one would consider Hodgson. Looks like he's moving to his 3rd team on only his second contract.

Size? No. Speed? No. Grit/ Tenacity? No. Experience? No.

The only hole he fills is 'shoots right'.

Why would we bring Hodgson in where we have better options knocking on the door from within our organization? I would much rather see Arnold and Agostino be given an opportunity than have it handed to someone who couldn't earn his keep in another organization. For a team that went as far as they did on the "earned, never given" mantra, it seems stupid to bypass your own players and give a roster spot to a guy who couldn't earn his keep on a team that was trying to lose. Keep moving forward with what we have and what we are building. Great success is near because of the character the Flames have drafted and developed.
