Evidently Mays has been pretty impressive in camp and may see some PT on the inside in addition to his fantastic coverage play.
Ayers has been impressive as well, which is some very welcome news.
Outside of DJ Williams and Woodyard, I don't have a whole lot of confidence in that LB corps right now, so I am anxious to see some new guys take a step forward.

Most were saying that Lindley was first round talent if he had come out last year and really only feel due to injury this year. There's a re very good chance a number of this years draft picks stick on the 53 man roster. I am pretty excited foe the Eagles team this year.

Yeah, but they also said the same thing about Jack Ikegwuonu. I know Ikegwuonu spent is first year recovering from a torn ACL and never fully recovered, so it's not exactly the same.

He never has thrown much for interceptions though, and I never watched the Eagles that closely. For all I know his receivers dropped balls are the reason he's never been over 64%. He more or less has hovered in the 60% range in an era where a lot of guys are over 65, especially in an offence like what the Eagles run.

Yeah his accuracy has always been a problem and it always used to drive Eagles fans crazy. You're guaranteed to get at least half a dozen passes per game where McNabb either overthrows someone, bounces it three feet in front of a receiver, or throws behind his man.
That's not to say he didn't also have more than his fair share of terrible receivers, who dropped passes and ran poor routes. Todd Pinkston, FredEx, Billy McMullen, James Thrash, etc.

That said, his intangibles of leadership, elusiveness, and arm strength I always thought made up for his accuracy deficiencies.
His athletic ability has always made him what he is, so his shelf life as he ages will be shorter than the pure pocket passers in his age bracket (see Manning).

Jerry Jones actually had some interesting things to say about McNabb and Kolb. He basically felt that with McNabb it was all or nothing, no consistency. It was either a big play or a stalled drive. Jones feels Kolb is a more accurate passer and will move the chains on a lot more consistent basis. I will look for the link...
I for one will not miss a ball being thrown into the feet of a receiver running over the middle on a 6 yard route.
Although looking at that list of receivers . Man I am surprised McNabb did as well as he did.

I think Reid's play calling (crazy pass to run ratio) and the way defenses attack that kind of system had something to do with McNabb's perceived ineffectiveness. When the defense knows you are going to throw, it's pretty difficult to throw.

Schefter tweeted that after the first episode of Hard Knocks:
"Fact: After watching Hard Knocks last night, players are texting their agents this morning that they want to go play for Rex Ryan."

Some strange stuff going on in the NFL these days:
In San Francisco, Kentwan Balmer has left the team with no explanation. He is no longer on the roster and the 49ers are requesting a portion of his signing bonus be repaid. This is a kid who grew up a rabid 49er fan!
2nd year RB Glenn Coffee, also a 49er, has retired. In his defense, he was straight up about it with team officials by all accounts. His heart just wasn't in the game anymore was his explanation.
Now we find out Percy Harvin's 'migraines' (which he does suffer from) actually are a nearly 3 week unexplained absence from training camp. He is not on Minnesota's 80 man roster.

Thank god I've never personally suffered from migraines, but I did have a girlfriend who had severe migraines. She had spent more than 3 weeks away from school, work, etc... on several occasions. So it still could be migraines.

That was the point of the article. They Vikings have been saying migraines, but they've removed him from their roster and put him on the left team list. If it were migraines he'd be on the PUP list.

Yeah the Vikes have had a really turbulent training camp, not that it breaks my heart or anything like that however.
From todays Siefert piece...
Quote:
Quarterback Brett Favre still seems likely to re-join the team later this month, but his once-and-future teammates missed so many training camp practices that it was nearly impossible to gauge the state of the team. Pro Bowl receiver Sidney Rice missed all 24 practices because of a mysterious hip injury. Receiver Percy Harvin (funeral/migraines) missed 21, tailback Adrian Peterson (hamstring) sat out 16, center John Sullivan (leg) was significantly limited in 20 and right guard Anthony Herrera (back) missed seven.
|
I hope Harvin is OK on a personal level, but as a rival fan it doesnt bother me much that none of him Rice, Favre, or Peterson have had much time together. Thats a whole lot of talent to be missing time and if it translates to a slow start....good.

I know its only pre-season and its against the Browns, but I have to like Aaron Rodgers stat line from the game tonight.
10/10 146 yds and a TD.....3 series with a fumble by Grant mixed in.
Dont like what i see of the defense thus far at all however. Delhomme put up 14 on em in 2 series....and Ryan Grant left the game injured.

And the trend from camp continues for the Fins. The offence really sputtered along tonight, including Brandon Marshall, who had 2 real bad drops. The defence looked good but it is preseason. Interesting to see that Thigpen basically played from the 2nd qtr until the 2 minute warning in the 4th. Pat White didn't get a chance to make the team tonight and I think his roster spot is in jeopardy.

Anxious to hear from our resident Titans fan, but it looks like coach Fisher is going to give Marc Mariani every opportunity to make the Titans. 3 catches for 21 yards tonight. Returned 4 KO's and 2 punts as well. and a late 2-point conversion!
Always good to see Lex Hilliard in the end zone as well.

Hilliard had almost 10 carries tonight. All were short little gains. I don't think he had more than a 3-5 yard run on any of the carries. I believe he caught a couple of passes coming out of the backfield as well. On one of the catches he had a great opportunity to turn it into a decent gain but tripped over his own feet. The field conditions didn't help at all, it poured just as they were starting the game through the first qtr. Unfortunately with Cobbs still around, I think Lex will stay at #4 on the depth chart.
