Well my companies Calgary office is located in the BP center and I havent heard much from any of the people I know who work there.

All I have heard from anyone regarding this incident is some hearsay from a friend of mine who works at Halliburton. Nothing that hasnt already been suggested here though.

Why would someone admit to being a BP employee when chances are they have nothing to do with deep water drilling? Chances are they'd just hear scorn from people on here about something they have no control over. Plus they arent going to complain about financial losses when people think thats what drives our mentality in the industry.

So now that they have this cap ontop of the well and it appears to be pumping up some oil, whats the next step? I thought I read that they were placing a biger dome overtop the whole thing now to get the oil that leaks from the gasket? Or am I smokin crack?

Yeah because BP is going to catch some guy/girl who tells someone else "everyone thinks we're going to be taken over" and that second person comes and posts it on CP. I think BP has bigger problems to worry about.

Same reason people say other things on message boards that get other people all upset and opinionated. It's conversational.

No one thinks it's the least bit odd that the first comment regarding anyone knowing or talking to anyone from BP took until a few minutes ago? And that might have been because I asked?

I'd hate to work there right now. I'd think there'd be some pretty rampant gossip running through the offices.

Seriously, does no one know anyone that works for BP and they haven't heard a thing? Even if not related directly to the spill?

It's amzing, there's more Flames insiders on the Hockey forum then people who know a single one of the 1400 Calgary BP employees.
This is assuming that everyone here who knows someone who works at BP is eager to share whatever they've heard. It's more likely that there are some people here who do know BP people but have chosen to not say anything.

Which - like I've been saying - seems odd.

People like to tell things. It's in their nature.

Especially since this has been tried in other blowouts before and has failed every time. Not going to work.

Also, why would employees be told anymore than the lawyer driven claptrap that the CEO has been spewing.

Heard that the BOPs were not functioning for two weeks prior to the blowout. If thats true then they deserve all the sh%t that is coming.

Have always heard about lax standards in the US. People go visit wells being drilled in Texas and the BOP stack is laying beside the rig, dudes smoking while tripping pipe without shirts or hardhats. Who knows maybe that extended to offshore operations.
Bolded - that's what I was referring to.

Wasn't expecting to hear secrets about what happened as like you said, why would they know.

How can the BOPs not be functioning?
step 1: Put BOPs over hole
step 2: Plug in hydralic lines
step 3: There is no step 3

Exclamation Wonder how big the BP oil spill is?

This site shows the BP oil spil over a map showing anywhere you choose!

http://www.ifitwasmyhome.com/

It really puts it in perspective. The spill's massive! Center it over Edmonton for some irony!

Wow. If you put it over Calgary it's half way to Edmonton, covers most of Banff, and is creeping in on Lethbridge.

It is sad, really, especially given all the violations BP has had in regards to safety regulations.

This could have been prevented.

Speaking of Alabama they are having a huge dead fish problem there. They are not saying it is from the spill for sure but I imagine it is very likely.
