The ending is controversial, not a let down. I thought it was fantastic, elegent, intelligent, poignant, and, well ... you get it. I loved it. This is coming from someone who got into Dark Tower a couple years into the gap between Books 3 and 4.

The last 3 books had me right in. One thing I noticed when I first read them was how different the writing style was - but then I remembered, it had been 7 years between book 4 and 5, and about 26 years between the initial draft of book 1 and book 5.

Yeah, it's just weird because they keep doing stuff like playing Chopin's Fantasie.

I know Stephen King finished the series on a tear after his accident because he was worried he might die before completing what was was his life's longest opus. I read the first 4 books back in my youth and enjoyed them but my memory is hazy. Should I read the rest?
Yes. The ending is fantastic in my opinion.

Yeah totally. Like somebody said above me - it only ends once, everything else is progress. If I remember correctly, the end/start of the gunslinger's journey had a slight difference the second time around that gives hope to the reader.

The Dark Tower was all about the journey. That's the point. Stephen King gets a lot of flack from literary critics, but he's a pretty intelligent man and he writes good stories. I can't really say the same for all the literary geniuses that we're supposed to worship (although some really do deserve the credit they get).

My only complaint was the drop-off in writing. I really did struggle through the last books. It felt to me that he went way over the top describing things towards the end, whereas before he was more elegant and left a little more to the reader's imagination.

The lost writers bought the rights to the movie for $19. Steven King said they are the only guys that he thought could do it justice. Should be epic! Also, a little easter egg...I can't remember the exact details, but Nozz-a-lozz (sp? Coca Cola in The dark tower's universe) is mentioned in one of the early Ben episodes.

Desmond is simultaneously active in both universes. This is why whidmore wants him. "see you in another life" is his tagline for a reason.
After the island is 'done with you', you return to your previously scheduled life in the 'real' universe.
If you fail to do what the island asks of you (generally it involves personal growth - see sayid, jack, locke) then you will be punished as a whisperer.

Yeah thats what I figured as well. What a terrific episode, sometimes you forget about the other Locke because of the Lockemonster.

BTW did anyone get the chills at that slow evil smirk that he pulled off.

I had a flashback to season 1 with the dynamite, I didn't expect that.

Oh and Libby has a nice errrrr rack.

Lot of people thought the Richard centric episode was the best, but I thought tonights surpassed that big time.

Really?!

I just don't know what I'm missing, I thought this week's episode was a dud.

I liked the Richard episode, but I also thought this was really strong.

We know that Desmond can exist in both worlds. We now know that the people in the AR can remember events in the Island reality.

Those were the key points.

And how could you not like Lockemonster this week, he was so deliciously evil.

Lockemonster was great, really see the evil side of him. Also Sayid 2.0 without feelings, scares the crap out of me

Lost is one of the few shows on tv that goes by quicker than it seems. The hour just flies by.

Lockemonster.

He did a great job in the show, I contrast the look of malicious evil of the Lockemonster with the look of total fear and pain in the face of John Locke as he lay on the concrete after Desmond gave him the Grand Theft Auto.
