wow, lots has changed. i loved 7-11 when i was younger(went to nickle from sept 99-june 02) stole my first box of candy(nerds-first and only) from that 7-11. they closed it around beginning of 01 i believe, we wanted to burn that place when we saw the sign sayin it would be closed. they closed ti because they said they were losing money from all the stealing, i bet the ydid alot of business from nickle though. i used to bike or rollerblade there everyday in the summer. ahh good times, and im young(18). i remember the trailerpark too, we would go and play in there, do gun wars and stuff like that(plastic guns) and play hide and go seek and the sort.still live about 2 blocks from the former trailerpark and 2 blocks from the former 7-11

Another Bonavistan, sweet. If that 7-11 closed from losing too much money I'm not to blame, as I walked across that Nickle field many a time for my daily Slurpee.

That is in fact true, my friend. Although this incident was very early in on Buck Shot's reign and as such, there's no independent video verification (pre-VHS), enough kids in those days went home for lunch and I was universally lauded (even by the bigger boys).

My whole family is from Calgary and I was born there. I have lots of good memories. It sure has changed lots. My mom use to tell me she had a horse and she lived in Thorncliff (My Grandmas house is still there.) She would ride around the hills there. It really has grown over the years.

Ha...Buckshot was great. Used to race home from school at lunch to watch him. Never got on his show, but I remember seeing him at the grand opening of the Macdonalds in Forest Lawn circa 1972 ?. I did make it onto the Dale Harney show though....still got the autograph to prove it.......somewhere. I bet few remember that one. He had the sexy assistant, which i think was his wife.

Haha Dale Harney. CFAC's answer to CFCN's Buck Shot. Before Harney, CFAC had a kids show called "Wynn's Pad" starring some groovy hippie dude named Wynn. Wynn's sidekick was Robbie The Robot (Robbie was pronounced "Roh-bee" for some strange reason). Bags of Old Dutch Chips and other prizes used to slide out of Robbie's "mouth." One time a kid got stuck in Robbie's mouth and a cameraman had to rescue him. Anyway, the kid cried and I bet the kids at his school teased him after that.

now that is funny!

what about the game show Kid Street with Kevin Frank. My sister and I tried out for that show but apparantly we didn't make good streeters, perhaps we shouldn't have answered all the questions right

I graduated from Wisewood in 1987. I moved to Calgary in 1981. I remember:

- An actual intersection at Glenmore and Crowchild (use to have to sit there and wait for lights for hours)

- Chinook Centre had a road through the middle of it.

- Bars (Denny Andrews was the best - Wacko Wednesdays - everything on the menu was 3 for 1); Electric Ave the night the Jays won in 1992 was the bestnight of my life; "Bladder Burst" at Coconut Joes (All you could drink for $10.00 until someone went to the bathroom); The Beach Bar (if you were underage, they would ask you to bring your ID next time you were there); Peeper's (the Chair Girl? Does anybody remember the Chair Girl????) -----GOOD TIMES!!!

What a trip down memory lane - Good post!!

Anyone here old enough (like me) to actually remember when they built the c-train? I remember our whole family going down to Anderson station to take the train downtown. It was quite the novelty. And then all the people plowing their cars into it not paying attention while driving.

Me too, same year.

Remember Castle Pizza across the street? Spent a few spares there...

I remember Maclin Ford being across from Chinook Center, along with Big 4 Jeep(?).
