I don't know that Pennsylvania is going to be a big win for Clinton either. I could see her taking Pittsburgh (due to the steelworkers and their unions) and some of the rural areas, but I would say Philadelphia is most likely going to go to Obama. She'll probably get the popular vote but I don't see her being able to pull away with many more delegates.

By Brendan O’Neill

Obama-mania is getting out of hand. Full-grown and well-educated men—from swooning Andrew Sullivan to the entire staff of GQ magazine—are developing “man crushes” on Barack Obama, going weak in the knees for his immaculately pressed suits, oratorical skills, and shameless hope-mongering.

“I’ve never wanted anyone more than I want you,” warbles Obama Girl in a song called “I Got a Crush on Obama,” which has been viewed over 6 million times on YouTube. Celebs are queuing up to fall at his feet. “My heart belongs to Barack,” says Scarlett Johansson. There’s a palpable whiff of semi-religious hysteria at Obama rallies. As Joel Stein wrote in the Los Angeles Times, “Obamaphilia has gotten creepy,” and its “fanatical” adherents are starting to embarrass themselves.

The blind hope in Obama-as-messiah is most clearly expressed in the widespread delusion that he would be a “president of peace,” welcomed by a world eager to bury the warmongering ways of the office’s former occupant and renew its respect for America. Columnist Michael Kinsley praised Obama’s “valuable experience … as what you might call a ‘world man’—Kenyan father, American mother, four formative years living in Indonesia, more years in the ethnic stew of Hawaii, middle name of Hussein, and so on—in an increasingly globalized world.” But from my sedate Obamarama-free home in London, I’m not cheered by the prospect of this “world man” in the White House. Rather, I see him for what he is—or for what he threatens to become. Having never been stirred by the sight of Obama giving an MLK-style speech on the need for change, I can only take the candidates at their words. And Obama’s words are ominous indeed.

President Obama would be a warmonger. He would be a wide-eyed, zealous interventionist who would not think twice about using America’s “military muscle” (his words) to overthrow “rogue states” and to suppress America’s enemies, real and imagined. He would go farther even than President Bush in transforming the globe into America’s backyard and staffing it with spies and soldiers. He would relish the “American mission” to police the world and topple tyrannical regimes.

After eight years of Bush’s military meddling in the Middle East, if you want more war, vote Obama.

Two myths must be exploded: first, that Barack Obama was a principled and passionate opponent of the war in Iraq; second, that if he were installed in the White House he would resist the temptation to launch new wars and would instead usher in an era of peace.

That Brendan O’Neill piece is the most uninformed piece of opinion writing I've ever read....Ever.

A little about Brendan O'Neill from Wikipedia...

Brendan O'Neill is a journalist based in London. Currently, he is the editor of Spiked Online.
He began his career in journalism at Spiked's predecessor, the journal of the Revolutionary Communist Party, LM magazine, until it was forced to close following a libel action brought by ITN.

Also, CNN is making a game out of the remaining Democratic delegates...

The south didn't participate in the 1864 election. You know, because they had... um.... seceded?

Obviously the South supported Lincoln. Why else would there be a civil war?

First of all, how about posting the article from the originating source, rather than trying to hide it behind a secondary source that is likely to be considered less inflamatory. Weak soup.

Propaganda and disinformation. Gee, I'd never expect that from a conservative magazine.

Come on you two. You're better then that.

Lincoln held a good portion of Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana at election time in '64. Yes, I know those states weren't involved in the voting, that's not where I was going with it.

Better than what? Let's review the context:

One poster commented (erroneously, as it turns out) that "You can't name one president in history who was elected without carrying a large portion of the south."

badnarik then listed several, including Lincoln at the top of that list.

Your rejoinder was "Actually, I think Lincoln held a pretty good portion of the south in '64." In context, this can only mean electorally. We aren't even talking about the war--we're only talking electoral history here.

(electorally, as it happens, Lincoln was demolished in the south--what there was of it, which we can nominally call Kentucky, West Virginia, and Maryland and Delaware (sort of). Of those, he won only West Virginia, which only existed because of him anyway, and Maryland. The states you listed weren't involved because they had seceded--why would they vote for president of a country they weren't a part of? In 1860, Lincoln fared if anything, even worse.)

The more relevant question of course is whether a candidate can win today without doing well in the South--and I think the math is such that they do need to at least carry a state or two. The political landscape has changed a lot since the 1860s.

Republican propaganda at it's best:

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa Republican congressman said Friday that terrorists would be "dancing in the streets" if Democratic candidate Barack Obama were to win the presidency.

Rep. Steve King based his prediction on Obama's pledge to pull troops out of Iraq, his Kenyan heritage and his middle name, Hussein.

"The radical Islamists, the al-Qaida … would be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on Sept. 11 because they would declare victory in this war on terror," King said in an interview with the Daily Reporter in Spencer.

Wow...I cannot describe how much I loathe republican tactics. The American people should be insulted by how little faith this party puts in America's ability to see the truth.

What a effing idiot.

Anyone dumb enough to buy this won't be able to figure out how to vote, so I guess it affect much, but still, rocking the racism is bad news.

Try telling the whole story, it usually helps with clarity.

As Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton prepares for an afternoon news conference here in Washington, where she is to be surrounded by “military officers,” her campaign has put up a YouTube moment that you can bet will be replayed over and over.

In it, Susan Rice, a foreign policy adviser to Senator Barack Obama, discusses the foreign policy credentials of both Democrats against the tableau of Mrs. Clinton’s 3 a.m. phone call advertisement about who would be best prepared for an international crisis. (While your children are safely asleep.)

“Clinton hasn’t had to answer the phone at three o’clock in the morning and yet she attacked Barack Obama for not being ready,'’ Ms. Rice said. “They’re both not ready to have that 3 a.m. phone call.”

It was bound to happen.

Just wait until Obama wins the nomination...if he does...racism will be out in full force then.

Personally I find the 'personal' insults pathetic....attack Obama with actual substance, because there is a lot of that to go around.
