Reed has never hit right handers better, and he is a guy that never looks like he is going through the motions like a certain center fielder, who will not re-up with the Jays. Wells has a ton of talent but isn't a natural leader, I'd hate to see him go in a way, but like mentioned above he is headed to Texas first chance he gets. As for pressure, it's about time J.P. put some on this team, they are playing in the most pressurized division in baseball, and play like it when they have a AL east opponent, unfortunately they seem to treat other games like spring training.

I think Riccardi has done a great job. A lot of babies playing in the league anymore, and he has built the Jays into a team picked to contend against the Yankees and BoSox. I believe that is an amazing job.
I'm wondering if Free agency hasn't been the bane of MLB, not because of the skyrockting costs, but because of the sense of entitlement a number of pro-players seem to be exhibiting.
Josh Beckett gets a 3 year $30,000,000 contract and says "...its a deal that gives me security..." ;like his $4,325,000 this year and again next year wasn't enough.

For those interested there is a lot more discussion about this on bluejayway including a link to an interview Hillenbrand conducted today with a station in Toronto.

They spent the entire episode of Off The Record talking about this situation today. Do they still replay it at night?

By the way, with Sportsnet just showing the probable starters this week for the Jays, it looks as if I will get to see Halladay and Burnett pitch next week in Seattle!

Quick update:
-Hilldebrand compliments, players/fans.
-Denies writing "The Ship is sinking" on the blackboard in the dressing room.
-Asked to comment on what he thinks about an unnamed teamate calling him a cancer in the dressing room and who "went how the lineup card that night went:...but he knows who it is. A "team leader" in his words.
-No comment (as he announcer couldn't find the quote) on the accusation he tore the Canadian flag off one of his hats.
-Says Gibbons egged him onto fight last night before the game,
Riccardi says:
-Sink is shipping line was one factor.
-Whole bunch of stuff he's not going to divulge, lead to this.
-Riccardi would rather quit then have to bow down to players who aren't team players, and who said things the way Shea did about the club.
Too bad JP won't get anything for him..I will side with Jays in this one..this guy turned what seemed to be a molehill into a mountain, and have shooken the room up, if even for a few games.

I think that "Unnamed player" is Gregg Zaun, he isn't afraid to talk to the media and he is one of the team leaders for sure.
I can't see Glaus or Wells mentioning that stuff to the media, not really their style.

I think its great that Gibbons tore a strip into Shea. And it shows that the organization basically chose Gibbons over Hillenbrand, as the main feud seemed to be between those 2.
I think this whole thing could bring the team together.

Kind of strange since it was basically Gibbons who went before JP in the off seasons and said "You have to keep Hillenbrand", when he was considering dealing him.

This situation just seems so bizarre. I just finished watching all the video and reading all the articles about it...and I really don't know what to think.
Ugly situation all-around.

HUGE win for the bluejays and more importantly their clubhouse tonight. To see them all so excited when Vernon was rounding the bases to come home was great to see.

Fun fact O' the day,
BJ Ryan has 3 blown saves this year. All games were at Rogers centre, and in all games the Jays came back to win in extra innings. 2 on walk-off homeruns.
BJ Ryan has yet to really hurt the team, which is unbelievable considering his 43 appearances.

Great way to win the game. The rally at home plate when Vernon came around was awsome to see. Hope they can carry that momentum into the next 3 games.

Huge win to really unify a fractured clubhouse, Wells actually showed emotion which was great to see as saved his manangers bacon over another questionable pitching move.

No win situation for Gibby. Its not like he pulled Doc for Schoenweiss or Speir. He brought in the man that has done it all year for them in BJ Ryan. I think that's a tough decision to second guess. And the hits given up by BJ weren't great. He sawed off the bat of Posada right down to the handle but it blooped in there. Bad break.
But I agree...huge win. This game had the makings of disaster for the Jays after the events of the previous day.

How was that a questionable pitching move? Ryan has been solid all year plus he has to get into a game sooner or later.
In my opinion the move was the right thing to do, the Yanks just got a lucky hit.

2 outs in the 8th innings. Seemed like an ok time to pull Doc at the time.
Cant always account for lucky breaks.
Dont blame him at all for this.. Spier came in and did alright in extra innings as well.
Good solid team win.

Totally agree, Jays went with the percentages. Jason G, had only 1 hit in 13 Opportunities against Ryan. Plus A-Rod has never had a hit against Ryan. Seemed like the right move to make.
Spier and Tallet did a great job in the extra innings.

His ace on the mound in a must win game, just a matter of opinion I guess, I just trust Halladay in that position. Gibbons has been a little quick to go to the pen over the last couple of series, and when the pen struggles.....they lose. Always like to give a closer the start of an inning, unless of course the game is on the line in the 8th, which last night it wasn't.
