Novak just nailed a backhand around the post but somehow Charlie got it back for a winner.

Novak looks like he's running out of gas here.

Yeah jg, I think your prediction of Carlos in four is looking spot on.

Such a big hold by Charlie just now after squandering all those break points earlier this set.

Charlie is the youngest to win the career grand slam. Heck of an effort from Novak, I though we might be going he distance.

Yep just not enough gas. You could tell by the way Novak played the first set. A completely different player from the rest of the match.
Congrats to Alcaraz! What an accomplishment

He probably went too hard, too early but this result felt inevitable. I don't dislike Charlie but apart from certain points when he pulls off remarkable shots, I've never warmed to him.
Jannik is a drug cheating, emotionless brick wall. The next 15 years of grand slams will be dominated by these two.

You would hope to imagine there's a 14 year old prodigy that will help prevent that from happening. The sport deserves it

Out of the young guys on tour, Fonseca or Fils are the only ones with enough power to maybe challenge the big two. I have hopes for Tien but he'll never match them for power.
But agreed, really hope there's a prodigy or two out there that will step up.

King Carlos! This is the first Australian Open final I've got up early to watch since Nadal retired, I can't wait to see this young man to climb the ladder of all time greats until he gets to #1. Alcaraz has now already tied McEnroe with 7 majors

Could Alcaraz become the first man to complete the triple grand slam and win each major 3 times?

If not for Sinner's PEDing Alcaraz might already be on double digit majors before 23. So I guess I gotta say thanks for cheating Jannik and at least providing some semblance of a challenger. But even still it's clear Alcaraz is at least a level above Sinner, and quite obviously several levels above the rest of the field not named Novak, who likely has a year or two max left. Ultimately, I think Alcaraz's biggest challenger is gonna be himself and motivation. But if he stays supremely motivated I would think we have a good chance to see him pull off a calendar slam at some point, and the major record is under threat.

Yes, after 7 trophies I don't see him having a home slam like the B3 did yet. No idea which one he'll end up with the most of

I mean, clay is his best surface. So I'd say Garros is a fairly safe bet.

Was anyone else's sound slightly off for the broadcast? Like the court noise was in sync but the commentary was slightly ahead to the point where they'd almost be spoiling the result of a rally by a half second?
