I think Honzek and Klapka made the team and Coronato and Pelletier didn’t.
I also think Barrie and Pachal solidified spots.

Honzek and Pelts are going to the AHL. Maybe Coronato as well.
Depends on what is happening with Backlund

I don’t think they will send Coronato down in favour of Honzek.

Always impressive when you can beat 2 teams. Seattle could've murdered a busload of kids at center ice and been rewarded with a 4 minute PP because the kids sprayed blood on the Seattle players' face.
Anyway, Honzek will still likely get sent down but very encouraging how he came back to kick ass in the preseason. Coronato kind of the same. But I'm sure the message will be "you basically made the team, we just have to clear out some space."
Also I hope Barrie doesn't get signed. The possibility of him getting us a mid to low pick in a few months is not worth pushing guys out IMO.

I think with this audition, Barrie has earned an NHL contract for the year. I just hope it will be on another team.

I think you have to give Honzek a chance to start the first few games. Otherwise, what is the point of pre season and try outs, if you can't earn a spot.
Pelletier can be waived, I have seen nothing positive out of his game since the injury. He is not the same player he was for that one stretch a few years back.

Daccord looked totally disinterested on 3 of the 4 goals. I know it's preseason but those optics were terrible.

I still don’t like the idea of waiving Pelletier. The goal for this season should be to work as hard as possible to gain as few points as possible while maintaining/gaining as many assists as possible. How would giving away an asset for nothing help to meet that goal? The Flames need players with good attitude and middling skill this year.
This year is all about asset management and tanking. Next season or the following one player development can become the primary focus once a few potential top 6 centres have been drafted.

I had the thought watching the game tonight that Klapka hasn't grown into his body yet. Watch out when he does.

After the preseason Honzek has had, I don’t know how you can send him down to start the season. Always earned, never given, he’s earned it.

A few players have earned spots. But I guess the thinking is it's poor asset management to start them over some players who require waivers.
I don't know I agree with the sentiment myself as they've been saying that they'd make room for them if they earned spots.
Guess we will see when the cuts come.

I honestly don’t think Pelletier would get claimed if he was put on waivers.
Every single year, fans are always so certain that Player A and Player B will get claimed. Then they don’t get claimed.
Pelletier has injury concerns. I don’t think there’s a team that will claim him based on how he’s looked since getting hurt in training camp last season. He’s also five years removed from being a first round pick

He will probably get claimed because he was a first round pick and several other teams at that draft had scouted him and had him in their list will want to take a look at him in their program.

I just dont see anyone spending one of their 13 F spots on an undersized 23YO who has an injury history and cannot crack a team screaming for offensive talent.

1st round picks go through waivers all the time. He might get claimed, teams might see his issues from injuries and think he'll recover like Valimaki, but good chance he doesn't.
Honzek deserves a look at the main roster. I think the true NHL speed will be an issue for him right now but he's earned a look and an NHL paycheque for a couple weeks. If he struggles send him down.
