Dec.13th:
Battaglia gets a goal, but was -2 in a 3-2 OT loss to Kitchener. He has 11 points in his last 10, but has slipped to 17th in OHL scoring with 30gp/18g/21a/39pts,even, 18 PIM. Kingston is 7th overall out of 20 teams.
Despite having more points than any player on either team, Mews is NOT named to the 3 stars of the game, posting 1g, 2a, +2, with 5 shots in a 3-2 OT win over Peterborough (he had the primary assist on the game-winner). He is 3rd in scoring by D, with 28gp/8g/29a/37pts,+2, 26 PIM, while the 67's are tied for 14th in the standings- which makes his accomplishments even more impressive IMO.
There's no stopping Misa, who picks up another 2a (even, and 13/25 in faceoffs) in a 5-4 OT loss to Sudbury, with Rehkopf and Martone away at WJC camp. He is 12th in OHL scoring, with 29gp/18g/25a/43pts,+19, 2 PIM, and 11th in plus/minus, while the Steelheads are 12th out of 20 teams in the standings. In his last 14 games, the older Misa brother has 28 points.
Saginaw defeats Guelph, 7-6 without the services of Parekh, who is 4th in scoring by D with 25gp/10g/24a/34pts,+12, 43 PIM. He's also 14th in plus/minus for D, while the Spirit are 10th in the OHL. Mike Misa was first star tonight, with 2g, 2a, and +4 to take the lead in the scoring race by 5 points, with 28gp/29g/30a/59pts,+26, 21 PIM.
Morin had no points, and was -1 as the Wildcats defeat Acadie-Bathurst, 3-2 in OT. Despite only getting 1 point in the last 5, he is still 4th in scoring by D, with 28gp/6g/21a/27pts,+11, 18 PIM, and tied for 13th amongst blueliners in plus/minus. Moncton is second in the Q for points, but first in win %, at .800.
Gridin gets another 2a, and was +1 in a 4-3 win over Rouyn-Noranda, and is now 17th in scoring with 28gp/15g/19a/34pts,+7, 15 PIM. Shawinigan is tied for 8th in the Q standings.
Basha was first star with 1g, 2a, and +3 in a 5-1 beatdown of Moose Jaw. 20gp/9g/16a/25pts,-1, 28 PIM, while the Tigers are in 5th-place.
Hurtig must've had the game of his life, racking up 1g. 1a, and +3 in a 5-4 OT win over Kamloops, without Tanner Howe. The Hitmen are surprisingly tied for 8th overall, and Hurtig sits at 28gp/2g/5a/7pts,+22, 11 PIM, tied for 11th in plus/minus.
The Winterhawks beat Prince George, 4-1 with no points (-1) for Laing. The Cougs are tied for 5th, and Laing sits at 28gp/9g/10a/19pts,+7, 22 PIM.
Vancouver is blanked 4-0 by Victoria, so no points (even) for Lipinski, who went 6/18 in faceoffs. 20gp/3g/12a/15pts,-1, 18 PIM, and the Giants are tied for 14th out of 22 teams.
Jamieson is named 3rd star in a 3-2 loss to Wenatchee with 1g (even). He has amassed 11 points in the last 10 for a stat line of 31gp/7g/13a/20pts,+26, 27 PIM, 7th-overall in plus/minus.

I've noticed that the junior leagues are sometimes very... creative when it comes to star selections. I've seen games with a 5-4 final score, with all three stars coming from the winning team, two of whom only recorded one point and like two shots each, while a guy on the losing side had like four points and six shots.
Like... It was a one goal game. Surely you can allot one star to the losing team, right?

Mews' production jump this season is incredible.
I fully expect both he and Parekh to be at the WJC for Canada next season

Dec.14th:
Battaglia gets 1a, and was even, in a 4-3 SO loss to Guelph, and missed on his opportunity in the shootout. He is tied for 16th in OHL scoring with 31gp/18g/22a/40pts,even, 18 PIM.
Parekh gets 1a and a game-high 6 shots, but was -3 in an 8-2 loss to Erie. He is 4th in scoring by D, with 26gp/10g/25a/35pts,+9, 45 PIM.
If I had told you at the beginning of the season that Henry Mews would outscore Zayne Parekh, you would've rightfully thought I was crazy. Well, Mews was third star tonight with a whopping 4a (and was even) in a 5-4 SO win over Barrie, and is tied for 2nd in D scoring (and 14th-overall) with 29gp/8g/33a/41pts,+2, 26 PIM. In his last 12 games, he has 23 points. Sam Dickinson is still the top scoring defenseman in the OHL, with 26gp/15g/31a/46pts,+17, 18 PIM.
Gridin gets 1a, and even, in a 2-1 loss to Val D'Or. He has 7 points in 5 games in December, for 29gp/15g/20a/35pts,+7, 15 PIM.
Morin is third star in a 7-2 shellacking of Cape Breton, with 1g, 1a, and +2. He is tied for 3rd in scoring by D with 29gp/7g/22a/29pts,+13, 18 PIM.
Basha is named 2nd star in a 3-2 win against Lethbridge, with 2a, and a +1. In 4 games since returning from injury, he has produced 7 points for 21gp/9g/18a/27pts,even, 30 PIM.
Jamieson gets yet another assist, and was even in a 4-1 win over Tri-City. In the last 14 games, he has put up 14 points for 32gp/7g/14a/21pts,+26, 29 PIM. He is tied for 20th in scoring by D, and is 7th-overall in plus/minus. 15 year-old Landon Dupont is tied for 4th in scoring by D, with 29gp/6g/26a/32pts,+20, 8 PIM.
Laing picks up 1a, and was +2 in a 3-1 victory over Spokane. He has 5 points in the last 4 games, for 29gp/9g/11a/20pts,+8, 22 PIM.
No points, -3, and 13/23 in faceoffs for Lipinski in a 6-3 loss to Victoria. 21gp/3g/12a/15pts,-4, 20 PIM.

Sandman, you watch more than I do. How much of Misa’s production is a product of playing with Rehkopf and Martone?

I would say it definitely helps to play with two offensive juggernauts like Martone and Rehkopf (Misa struggled at the beginning of the season when he was not playing on the top line with them), but in the two games that those two have been away at WJC camp, Misa has 4 points. IMO, one of Misa's best qualities is his ability to drive the offense through transition with his high-end brain and blazing speed- so I believe he could still put up good numbers away from the other two in the right situation, as there is a steep dropoff in offensive numbers beyond the top line in Brampton. I think you could put him on any team's top line in the OHL, and he would still be good for 90-100 points or more on most of them. There's good reason why he was drafted into the OHL with the 9th-overall pick in 2021.
Last season, Misa was one of the main focal points for the Steelheads' offense, and led the team with 81 points in 66 games- 10 points more than Martone (who only played 60 games), and 19 more than the third-placed scorer, Angus MacDonnell. Rehkopf wasn't a part of the team until the off-season.

It is quite possible the Flames end up with the better Misa.
And the lesser one, too.

10-ish years ago the Flames had a Gaudreau-Bennet-Ferland line in Penticton that was all-world.
Plus Sven Baertschi, Sean Monahan, Mark Jankowski, Laurent Brossoit, Jon Gillies and Max Reinhart.
That’s a lot of NHL calibre talent we had in the pipeline, but it didn’t translate into a lot of success in the standings or progress towards a championship.
A good prospect pool is a key component for sure, but it’s only one piece of the puzzle.

I remember one of the knocks on Misa going into the draft was that he wasn't much of a goal scoring threat, but he looked pretty dangerous there. On pace for 43 goals now.

Dec.15th:
Kingston is obliterated, 10-1 by Brantford, with the Fronts only goal coming off the stick of our own Jacob Battaglia (-3). He is tied for 16th in scoring, with 32gp/19g/22a/41pts,-3, 18 PIM.
After piling up 23 points in his previous 12 outings, Mews takes the night off with zeroes in a 4-3 win over North Bay. He is 3rd in scoring by D, and tied with Battaglia for 16th-overall with 30gp/8g/33a/41pts,+2, 32 PIM.
In the third-straight game without linemates Rehkopf and Martone, Misa shows he can drive a line by himself, with 1g, 1a, and +1 in a 3-2 loss to Oshawa. Misa is 10th in OHL scoring (and 9th in plus/minus), with 30gp/19g/26a/45pts,+20, 2 PIM.
Hitmen keep rolling, defeating Speedy Creek 4-3, without the services of Axel Hurtig.
Lipinski gets all zeroes, and goes 7/16 in faceoffs in a 5-1 win over Tri-City. After an impressive showing last year, he is struggling this season with 22gp/3g/12a/15pts,-4, 20 PIM. Wonder if he's dealing with an injury?
Tigers are defeated by Lethbridge, 4-1, with no points and -1 for Basha. With 7 points in 5 games since returning from injury, he is at 22gp/9g/18a/27pts,-1, 30 PIM.

I love the size we have now. Just all around.... just need elite talent. Build depth for a multi player trade for one elite player!

What is going on with Lipinski? Thought he may get off to a slow start this season once he started playing, but he hasn't done much of anything so far. Disappointing.
