He is probably desperate enough to sign with the Oilers or Leafs now

It's only Day One of free agency.

Players have all summer.

Maybe some team invites him to camp on a PTO.

The idea of testing free agency is fine, but when you aren't getting the calls within the first hour or two, go snag that contract offer before it's too late.
Who knows what interest there is in him.

There are plenty of signings after the first few hours.

Yeah but it's telling he isn't signed by now. He'll be lucky to get a a year deal at 1.5 million now.

I would be surprised if the Flames weren't still even remotely interested, even just for camp competition.

The e reality is that every team just watched Kylington take two years off for largely undisclosed mental health issues. That’s not a gamble that many teams want to take.

I really feel for the guy. He’s an NHL defenseman for sure. But there’s significant financial risk for any owner signing him. I can understand being hesitant to commit to any longer than a year.

Is it telling for all the other UFA's that haven't signed a contract today, too?

I feel like the Flames would have given him a final offer that could be signed before free agency and have a different lesser offer that will be available to him now if he wants to come back.

His agent last fall tried to strong arm the Flames in the media. Instead of saying things like “man the Flames sure supported my client.” Chose to say we’ll see how the year goes. And proceeded to watch his client miss over half the year. I liked Kylington a lot. But that turned me off a bit. It’s a business. Hopefully he finds happiness in wherever he is. But it’s time to move on from Oliver.

And more importantly, his agent.

Kylington’s best play to get what he wants might be waiting for the dust to settle and teams have less options on defence. I wouldn’t read too much into day one of the free agency.

Yes. It’s telling them they priced themselves too high.

I'm a little surprised at how little there is left this year.

Tarasenko is the only guy I would call an impact player left.

Lots of offensive D-men that have lost their offence, some aged out used to be impact forwards, and a bunch of journeymen left.

There looks like a lot of teams with ample capspace, and almost zero teams that will need to dump players.

Why did Buffalo even buy out Skinner? They have $20 mil in space and there is nobody to spend it on.

After July 1, 11 teams have $10M or more in cap space.

23 have at least $4M.

Order is being restored to the galaxy.

This problem is only going to get easier as the cap goes up by $4-5M per annum.

Agreed, Barry strong arming the Flames after the last 2 years is plain ignorant IMO

Maybe he is toxic. Glad the Oilers picked him up

There are many lesser free agents that don't get talked to on the initial days. Once the dust settles, teams will start to look to fill in the cracks and start looking at the 2nd tier UFA's. You suggestion that players who don't get immediately snatched up is simply due to pricing themselves too high makes no sense.

NHL app tracker shows Min. Has Kylington name crossed out on Flames roster and Min beside his name. Wild tracker does not show it. Not sure how to post from app.

https://www.nhl.com/news/free-agency-signings-2024

Earlier it did no have Ben Jones listed.

If he turned down a sure contract from Calgary and ends up on a PTO, I’d say that’s not a win for him.
