and I'm sure Conroy prob asked Tanev what sort of chance he would re-sign with us before he left.
Because if he is coming back I would trade Rasmus too.

Love this trade. Getting another solid defensive defender is what this team needs. Frankly the flames have done an excellent job at rounding out the prospect pool especially on defense and getting additional picks always helps.

Maple Leafs get: D Mark Giordano, F Colin Blackwell
Kraken get: 2022 second-round pick, 2023 second-round pick, 2024 third-round pick
Return is similar to this, and without Blackwell.
Avs get: D Josh Manson
Ducks get: D Drew Helleson, 2023 second-round pick
About the same as this deal.
David Savard would probably the last time a 1st moved for a defensive dman like Tanev...and I think everyone called that an overpay.
Overall in the end an overpay of a 1st would have been nice, but the return is probably fair, which is fine.

Not me.
Hanifin is the better defender, younger and super durable.
If anything this should reassure you to the extent that we will at least be getting back a first plus a solid prospect (late first rounder or second rounder).
I think the Lindholm deal is still a very good comparable for Hanifin.

Yup. Maybe even a 3rd on top of that.
Not "omgwtf" like the lindholm return but hard to argue that isn't solid and just about in line with realistic expectations.

The names Stankoven and Bourque being thrown around in a Tanev deal was always utterly absurd.
A second-rounder and prospect feels about right. Would have been nice to see some more favorable conditions on the additional pick- but overall it seems like a fine deal.

well even not very good teams have good players
I think both Tanev (shutdown D) and Lindholm (two way center) are good examples of their player type- but they are rentals. I think the returns have been fair

What’s happened on the last two trades is a big increase in D prospects, which the Flames were light on. They won’t all pan out, maybe. But more bullets = more chances some will.

Eventually yeah. Since Shilly likes the right side anyways.
But full marks to the Shilly/Pachal pairing, they're light-years better than Oesterle/Gilbert/DeSimone

Personally I thought Tanev was worth a 1st, but that doesn’t necessarily mean this is a bad deal either. It’s basically 2x 2nds. Seems fair to me.

Or your expectations for a 34 year old UFA are wildly out of whack.

Love how a lot of you understand how things work better than Connie. For a rental, not bad. Let's see what happens.
