That has to be one of the most bizzare sports occurrences I've ever heard of.

Im hoping that the pettiness of being rivals helps the team that wins the first game still field a competitive roster for game 2 and Arizona can squeak in. And I hope that team is the Braves. Because screw the Mets.

I'm all for petty rivalries and screw the other guy.

But if Atlanta wins game 1 they're not going to pitch presumptive Cy Young winner Chris Sale in a meaningless game tomorrow, they'll save him for game 1 of the playoffs the very next day.

I think similar logic will apply for position players - better for the stars to not play a double-header, fly, then play game 1.

Not hard to imagine they got at least 1 extra win each in there from the White Sox being historically bad.

The AL West was pretty bad too with the 2nd and 3rd worst AL teams and none over 90 wins.

The Mariners going 5-9 against the Angels killed their chances.

Mariners had one of the weirdest stats. They had 92 quality starts (starter going 6+ inning giving up 3 runs or less) which was 12 more than anyone else in the majors. The Jays were 6th with 68.

Milwaukee, Cleveland and the Dodgers are in the 40s!

This is one of the more mediocre years that I can remember. In the AL 86 wins to get the two extra wild card spots is pretty low and only 3 teams with more than 90 wins with the Yankees at 94 being the high water mark. Collectively the AL was 48 games below 500. The White Sox did contribute greatly to that...but the NL had two teams lose 100 games and collectively will be +48. Worst the American league has been in awhile.

To me this one is totally bizarre. Replacing savant Farhan Zaidi with Buster Posey in SF. You're replacing an MIT graduate with a ball player with little business acumen. On paper I have to say, this seems terrible for SF.

On a side note, Zaidi is Canadian. If there's a Shapiro replacement, I hope it's him.

Well it's the Braves, Sale is probably gonna get lit up for 10ER in 2 1/3 to a bunch of minor leaguers.

That was a crazy game. Gotta love playoff baseball even though technically this isnt a playoff game.

That almost sounds fishy, like they had an agreement to split the games.
