No, but the issue with Kadri is he went unsigned for a long time. Sure, a lot of teams were capped out, but the fact that a lot of teams really didn't look at him as important enough to go after maybe says a lot.
Other than the Islanders, was anyone really after him? A guy coming off the season he was?

On Barn Burner the other day, it was mentioned that Columbus offered Kadri a contract that he turned down. Good thing for them too, because shortly after that is when Gaudreau went to them hat in hand.

Soft trade market this summer so we get pennies on the dollar for Toffoli.
Soft UFA market last summer with all teams capped out but we still overpay for Kadri.
This club needs to catch a break.

Honestly, you just take your medicine and move on. Does it feel like this team has lost 30 games of black jack in a row? Yup. Every move has turned to ####, ill conceived or no. It's time to just take a walk, no need to announce your rebuild plan to the world. Have a Pepsi, cool down and get ready for operation tank.

Yeah feels like whatever could go wrong has gone wrong since the Dallas series. Just blow after blow.
It's actually crazy when you look at it.
-lost to oilers in 2nd
-gaudreau walks
-chucky wants out and gets traded for hubrrdeau
-monahan sold for a 1st and kadri signed
-kylington misses first season
-huberdeau has biggest point drop off ever. Kadri with some of the laziest shifts I've ever seen.
-team has a miserable year and misses playoffs.
-half the team wants out
-GM walks
-coach gets fired
-toffoli sold in soft market
-kylington misses 2nd season
-such a bad start in first 10 games that team is considering a rebuild.
Sure I missed a bunch if stuff too.
This organization needs a legitimate win and overpaying a UFA doesn't count.

Kadri was coming off an 87 point regular season and 15 points in 16 playoff games while winning the cup. We overpaid in term but the dollar amount wasn't insane for his production that year.

I think the Avs were interested in having him back, but at much different economics. Basically a "hey stick with us one more year and let's go win another cup" type deal.

You can overpay on AAV or term. In this case it was obviously term. This deal would look much better if only two years left after this, even at a higher $ amount.

Even at 1x7 I would have rather had Monahan and a 1st rounder
Ah crap, what did I miss? What did Conroy just do? I'm not seeing anything in my feed, did he make a move today? Is there another thread? Trade, signing, firing where his lack of vision is coming through?
Update with details please.
I think there were better external choices to deal with the impending implosion of the team. Just my opinion. I thought opinions were allowed on this forum.
I’m sure they are good cheap soldiers for ownership.

No one is saying Edwards told him to sign those guys
But you are ignoring the dynamic created if he was told to win now, and to use cap to plug holes.
For a destination like Calgary that means higher risk signings because they don’t get the top end guys.
Yep. UFAs are almost all old and expensive, and teams like Calgary have to pay even more. And fans overestimate how many players are available via trade. The number of options available if you’re looking for, say, a 2nd pairing d-man are extremely limited. Especially if you’re a small-market Canadian team like the Flames - half the veterans in the NHL have NTCs and Calgary is on almost every list.

With any workplace the dynamics created by one’s boss can lead to bad decisions
In a league where the majority of teams are in a win now mode and their owners permit the teams to spend to the cap it is a shame that that dynamic only drastically affected Brad Treliving.

A majority of teams did not get strung along by their franchise winger right up to the last minute and then lose him for nothing.
Huby's drop off is also literally unprecedented in NHL history. I'm sure Brad had a crystal ball that told him it was going to happen?
