I think we should accept that his playing days are likely over.

This is where reporters would usually bridge the gap between the club and fans, but they've clearly been gagged by the Flames in this instance. Otherwise they are just not reporting the news out of the goodness of their hearts.

The Flames brought him to camp with a lot of discussion about him being back, where he fits, how starting at camp will be good because everyone is starting out.
So they were as surprised as anyone that this hasn't worked out.
And they'd be completely unable to provide any kind of time frame because they don't have a clue themselves.
As a fan I'd like to see him back, but you have to think of the individual.
My heart breaks for the guy. He clearly intended on playing and ... can't.

Did this just come out of the blue last off season?? Were there no signs of his struggles when he was making league min?? I get he is entitled to his privacy, I just find it strange how shortly after cashing in on an extension he disappears for nearly a year, re appears briefly and now disappears again. I just have to wonder how serious the issue would be if we wasn’t earning 2.5 million a year.
It is really unfair to the organization that they have to, or are expected to, honour their end of the contract while the player does not have to honour his end of the deal.

Consider for half a second why they would do that when it could help their career to break some news about his private health struggles. There are times when empathy for other people transcends sports and business. Investigate why you have no empathy when so many others clearly do.
But I don't even need to make that case. If you had a serious health concern that you wanted kept private from those you work with, you would have every right to do so because the law protects you. The law applies equally to everyone in our society, regardless of money or public status. If Oliver wants to keep it private, that's his prerogative. It's the end of the conversation.

Let's say Oliver had a concussion and could no longer play. Would you really expect him to "honor his deal"? This is no different.

I'd say there's allot we don't understand about trauma . I cannot imagine what courage it takes for this young man to have put on a brave face and pretend to be fine.
Acronym for fine is F ed up inside normal exterior.
He stepped on the ice , the worlds stage, performed well and made some big strides but unfortunately we all do this and sometimes it's just a happy distraction away from what's really going on inside .
He described it as burying it . Eventually you decide that it's time and I'm proud of him for dealing with it so he can heal. Sure the timing could be different but let's remember it's a game.
He's dealing with things and has the full support of the Flames who are undoubtedly juggling allot right now.
Pretty happy to see the support. Some people don't get the benefit of that support and end up going it all alone and it's an absolute nightmare

You clearly have never seen anyone seriously struggle with mental health. I basically saw one of my childhood friends get swallowed by a blackhole of depression and it wouldn’t have mattered if he was making 10 million dollars a year. He wasn’t getting up for work because he wasn’t able to.

It might be a good idea to ask him how he'd feel about a fresh start with a team in a lower hockey profile city. While I think this hurts our team, we'll never get fair return for him, it might be the best option for a guy who is clearly struggling in his current situation.
Having said that, I think his first game will be the hardest mental obstacle. If he could somehow get one under his belt, I think it'll get easier for him.

The strangest thing to me is that people think they’re shareholders in the Flames because they buy a few tickets. Guess what? Your “investment” lets you sit in a seat on game day. Anything else is gravy.

We are all just guessing here, because we don't know what is going on, nor what's best for Oliver. But, the Flames have demonstrated an impressive level of commitment to the well being of their players, and I think we can trust that they will do what is best for him and his career.
