Really cool episode. Thrawn's entrance was epic, even for a pure saga fan like me who isn't too familiar with him. The trooper army and goldface were neat.
Were they loading caskets into his Star Destroyer?
Aside from her fighting, Sabine/her actress is bogging things down a bit. I really can't stand her character. How is it she shows no remorse for dooming the galaxy and dishonoring her master while she's in her cell? She's just obsessed with Ezra, and then when they get their reunion it's.... pretty underwhelming.
Was she like this in Rebels?
How was Thrawn not able to spot the crab village and Ezra over years, and Sabine does a little recon for half a day and tracks him down?
I wonder what's calling Baylan to that planet..
Bring on ep. 7 and 8!

I'm convinced that Ezra at the end of Rebels planted a force suggestion in Sabine's head and that's why she couldn't let him go.
But yeah she was the impulsive never take things into account character in Rebels.
Awesome episode, I got chills when the Chimera came over the structure with the paint job. And the battered look of the ship and the troopers spoke to Thrawns will to keep them alive and survive.
The actor playing Ezra was spot on.
Star Wars continues to be able to make ugly creatures adorable.
I'm not sure I'm understanding Baylan's quest, he seems to dislike what the jedi were, mourned their passing and wants to break the cycle. So it will be interesting to see what's on the planet that's calling him.
Seeing Lars physically playing Thrawn was awesome, but I had trouble hearing what he was saying.
Really good episode though.

As a largely non-animated series watcher, Ezra reminded me of live action Aladdin with his appearance and nonchalant aura.
I hope I can shake that association.

That was awesome. This show has improved a lot over the last two episodes. It's still not quite on the same level as Andor or the first two seasons of Mando IMO, but I'm diggin' it so far.
Thrawn's entrance was badass.

No kidding, I'm kinda shocked at how good he was.
Great episode, really enjoyed it. You knew it'd be easy to find Ezra, we'll just chalk it up to the will of the force that the turtle people happened to be nearby.

So Sabine doomed a galaxy for him and when she finds her long lost lover they… hug?
So she did it for a “friend”. Not a lover? (I’m on epi 8 of Rebels season 3, but I assumed that was where it would end up)
Is this a symptom of Rebels being YA fiction? Everyone is in the friend zone?
Great episode btw.
I like Thrawn, and the visuals of his battered ship and patched up Storm Troopers was awesome. I even suspected Gold Face was going to be Ezra because of the helmet markings.
Classic “cutesy” Star Wars allies with the Turtle Rocks. They will have courage and wind up slaughtered no doubt. Looking forward to that!

Quiet, subtle, dispassionate. Excellent. Makeup and red eys create sinister appearance that is offset by how calm he is. Has maintained order despite being stranded without hope of rescue. Indominable will.
The kind of officer who you could actually believe could create an intergalactic Empire (rather than the regular imperial dips).
Total sociopath.

This new galaxy brings a lot of potential to the Star Wars universe.
Judging by how scarred Thrawn's ship and roughed up his storm troopers are, they did not have an easy time in exile. He even admits that his forces have been diminished by sending only 2 squads to back up Baylan.
And Baylan searching for a great power that he learned from Jedi folk lore. A power that makes the Grand Mothers want to flee their galaxy.

Probably. Also...in Rebels I think they're supposed to be pretty young?
Maybe it just never got to that point?

I don't know about being lovers part. The holo message left by Ezra that was played in the 1st episode said he thought of Sabine as a sister.
Unless Star Wars is going to take a page from George RR Martin.

Star Wars had some light incest going on while George was still entirely unknown!

I really liked that they did the echo voices with the Night Mothers. The Night Sisters coming from another galaxy really retcon's out their history.
I want to know if the beaten appearance of the Star Destroyer came from the Purgil attack at the end of rebels, or the outright harsh nature of the galaxy in general.
I expect that someone like Thrawn would have tried to build his own mini empire and gather resources.
I now expect that Thrawn returns to the GFFA in the last episode of the season, and we get the oh Shyte moment with the Republic and see a major betrayal by the former imperials that have infiltrated the Republic government as their savior returns.
I expect Baylan is going to meet his faith, and his apprentice is going to fall to the Dark Side.

I literally came to post this exact same thing. Episode 5 seemed even greater after watching episode 6, because Sabine wasn't in it.
The actress is just not good.
I liked the initial introduction to Ezra though, the second "Didn't it?" was like straight out of his Rebels portrayal. I literally saw Ezra standing there in that moment. It was great.
Thrawn was good, he was quiet though CC is right about that. I liked his line about getting all the background on Ahsoka, that's his strength. He's not a super powered being, although I think his race has some elevated strength? At least it should if he is dumbying Dark Troopers with his fists and legs.
Although we saw Sabine kicking robots with her shins..
Anyway, he's like Batman in that regard. He can go up against super powered beings because he is always prepared. His knowledge is his super power. Oh god I sound like an after school special.
Really liked how his ship was all patched up, the storm troopers are worn and weathered. They even worked in the church organ music for him which was great, especially at the end there.
I found it a bit hard to believe that Ezra was so hard to find, but then so easy for Sabine.. I fully expected those creatures to live under ground and that would make a bit more sense how he could hide. But also Thrawn might have exerted a lot of resources to find him initially, then clawed back as those resources quickly dwindled. At any rate, they had to progress things quickly I get that. Can't have full episodes of Sabine wandering through the desolate planet.
I still think Stevenson remains the best part of the show. His Knight like attributes are great and very intriguing. I also love how we were all expecting him to say "not a jedi, a sith!" haha, but then "something more" to his apprentice.
So much good. Great series. Excited for the last two.

Agreed the character is a slog right now. Not sure it's much of the actors fault, tough when your character is an idiot. Her motivation is fine, but actions make no sense. Thrawn is right to let her go find him. Like "Yeah, okay. You know the only way you get out of here is on my ship, right?" And what how does she think Ezra will react to how she got there? He sacrificed his life to exile Thrawn and she's basically just going to bring them both back, making his whole sacrifice null? And yeah, sexless Disney is taking the heat out of what could be a nice little budding love story.

Personally I've never been a huge fan of Ezra as a character. Not sure what made him special enough to be worth risking more war for the galaxy. The portrayal is good. But also, he's been exiled for a few years, you'd think he might have a different sort of character.

I find Disney+ overall to be hard to hear. Granted, my hearing is pretty bad, but I have to crank Disney more than double my normal TV volume to hear anything. That said, Thrawn has always been quiet and I think his demeanour here was perfect. Still composed but I could also get a little hint of desperation from him too in a few moments. Lars Mikkelsson is great. Something that bothers me though is that in the show Thrawn has a bit of a different face than a human (other than the colouring). I wonder why they didn't give him the cheeks and forehead that Thrawn appears to have.

This also bothered me basically as soon as she set out. I knew she was going to find him within the episode and that it would be way too easy. But I also considered that Thrawn straight up doesn't GAF where Ezra is. Why would he?

Agreed the two fallen Jedi are the thing I'm most interested in. Stevenson is awesome. Stoic and calculated. Similar to Thrawn.

Boy is Ezra gonna be P/O'ed at Sabine when he finds out what she had to do to find him. Making a mockery of his sacrifice.
Thankfully, Ahsoka isn't far behind.
Last two episodes are going to be great.

ALL ABOARD!

I like that they faked us out with the storytelling conversation at the start. When it faded to the new scene I thought for sure we were getting a filler episode with more backstory.
