We should have flipped Huberdeau, and perhaps even Weeger, for a boatload of prospects and picks, never signed Kadri, and began the rebuild. The entire rebuild process would have been expedited just like that, and perhaps with eyes on Bedard at the end of this season.

Safe to say that the premature re-signings of Darryl, Huberdeau and Weegar means the team will not be rebuilding or bad enough to draft generational players. We’ll draft in our usual spot somewhere in the early teens after missing the playoffs.

This is why I so badly wanted the Flames to go the rebuild route after losing Johnny and Chucky. It was so obvious to me this team wasn’t anything special without them. All I know is, I’m not watching 8 years of whatever the heck this is every night.

Imagine a Huberdeau sign-&-trade + Pelletier to the Habs for Caufield+Slafkovsky. Would have set up this team beautifully for the future.
