Maybe if they had played Calgary at the start they would have gotten off to a very good start.
Calgary played Montreal when they were very weak, with Price out.
But at the end of the day, it is a foolish excuse to raise, is it seems so petty. Calgary missed the playoffs because they played very poorly when it mattered most. They couldn't beat teams when it mattered, in the worse division in the NHL.
Calgary beat themselves. No one disagrees. But had they kept the same record against other teams but played Ottawa when their goalies were literally stepping aside to let goals in, they’d have finished higher than Montreal. This is not controversial.

Assuming there were no other changes. But it's never in isolation. Calgary may well have gotten advantages in the timing of other teams.
Sure it's controversial. You can't just say Calgary would have gotten wins in mythical games they never played because of bad timing.
Calgary missed the playoffs because they crapped the bed at every material time. Live with it.

You are very much excusing Calgary. You are saying that Calgary deserved to make the playoffs if they had played Ottawa earlier.

Deserved has nothing to do with it. Calgary was unlucky with the timing, Edmonton and other teams were lucky. Calgary shouldn’t have been in that position and should have beaten plenty of other teams as well.
I still think the Hans are using 100% of their time. It’s the only spiteful thing to do.
I think they genuinely don’t mind the opportunity to get an extra 1st round pick, rid themselves Of another player who’s not as good as where they drafted him, and really secure a tank position this season.
No Weber. No Price. No Danault. No Perry. No Staal.
This season is a punt for the Habs, and if ever there was a time to let a guy you’re not sure of go via an offer sheet, this is it.

With respect to one matchup. They were lucky that lots of their games vs. Montreal were at the end of the year. It tends to average out. But whining about it is just so Oiler like.

LOL “whining”. I just wish it had been different. They were so easy then. They were much tougher when Calgary played them. And yes, the Flames had Montreal at the end, but it was pretty much all year Montreal.
Like I said, it may be petty, but that’s how it is. Sorry.

It is petty, which is what makes your complaints so Oiler like.
Ottawa was better at the end because they got to play the Flames so much. It’s not like the Senators turned into some elite team. The Flames inability to get more points from those games is entirely on them, not on the random schedule.
Can you imagine what you would be saying if an Oiler made a similar comment in a similar situation. Would you say “That’s quite correct, you got screwed by the schedule makers”?

No one got “screwed” by anyone. It was just bad luck. I just wish Calgary had gotten Ottawa when they were crap and their goalies were brutal. It’s not that difficult. And yes, Calgary still should have beaten them (and they showed they could in a couple games including Ward’s last).
Oiler fans complain about invisible stuff. It’s a fact that Ottawa got better before they played Calgary. If an Oiler fan complains about something legit, fine. If they complain about schedules (eg playing rested teams), the facts don’t back them.
