My thoughts on Brodie are the same. We will miss him, for an extra million plus another year, I would have kept Brodie. Sad to see him go.

How do you know the Flames didn't offer Brodie the same or even a better deal than Toronto? Seems like the guy wanted to be closer to family (careful what you wish lol)

This. Everyone assumes the same deal as Toronto offered gets you Brodie. Unless he was just stringing Treliving along Brodie was listening but for all I know he said “I’d rather move home and therefore you need to pay me $6Mx5 and give me a NMC to change my mind”. Maybe Toronto got a hometown discount.

Word was that Brodie's first priority was re-signing in Calgary - so if that is true, why would he be willing to sign for less in Toronto? It doesn't add up. All we know is what has been coming out, so one would assume if it was really true that he preferred to re-sign in Calgary, that he would have signed the same contract here, no?

In his own words he said he wanted to go home to Toronto and knew they wanted him because of the failed trade

Seems likely to me Calgary at least offered him that much which isn't exactly a steal either IMO

I don’t and neither do you. Still, if you’re getting Tanev at 4.5 why not pony up another 1-1.5 and make Brodie stay. I have no idea if that’s enough, but the optics of this are baaaad.

Well Brodie himself said he was happy to be heading home and knew that the Leafs wanted him because of the nixed trade

I think its safe to assume the Flames would have had to beat the deal

Where has Brodie got us? Remove all the emotions and loyalty to a home grown player and what do you get? A soft, really soft dman that can score a few points, but defends poorly.

Brodie is a great guy and I wish him all the best, but the Flames won't miss him.
