He's got this. He's gonna stand at 820ish by seasons end.
And if he can manage 3 more years averaging 25/year he's there. If he can stay healthy I even think he could do it in two. He's a shooter, and the last thing a player loses is his shot. Just like boxers who might lose their speed and agility, they don't lose their hitting power.
I already feel sorry for the goalie who's gonna have to give up 895 and have to be on the suck end of that highlight for the next 50 years. And you know Ovie isn't gonna want it to be an empty netter either.

His birthday is September 17th. The Draft cutoff is the 15th.
There were 4 leap years between his birth and the 2003 draft, so that was the argument they tried.

Ovechkin is 7 away from 800 now.
Crosby is the only other active player over 500 (529). Stamkos is at 494 and he's the only one who's even close to 500.

I planned on going to the Caps game in hopes we'd see 800 live. But looks like we'll probably just see the standard-issue one or two goals via one timer from the circle.

Ovi will set the record.
Matthews will get to 700 at least. May have a chance at the record if he keeps putting up 50+ and if he stays healthy and there's no lockouts.
Would be interesting to see a snake chart of Matthews and Ovechkin at the same ages.
