If Kassian gets a fine, or less than a couple games, they're essentially saying "If you don't like getting hit, just assault the guy who hit you".

If Kassian is back for the next BOA, and he expects Tkachuk to fight, or chases a guy like Gaudreau or Lindholm/Monahan, he's opening up his team to a world of hurt. If McDavid or Draisiatl so much as bump into Rinaldo, what's stopping him from doing to them exactly what Kassian did to Tkachuk. The league needs to set a clear precedent here, that you can't jump a guy just because you have hurt feelings.

This is so spot on but you just know the NHL is going to make a complete mess of this and only suspend him for a game or two. A BOA with a big fight gets the NHL extra coverage, which is exactly what the league wants, plenty of free coverage.

He's going to get 3 IMO.

It's worse than what Lucic did and he got 2.

I also think they intentionally try and pour water on the next BoA by making sure he misses it.

It kinda feels like Christmas morning doesn't it? The anticipation of the gift wrapped salt on its way has me all giddy.

I think he gets 3-5.
What is going to get him is his post game comments saying he would do it again...

If you're supposed to embody the role of player safety, then you take the gorilla with history out of the upcoming two BOAs after he threatened to take similar action again.

They likely won't, but if he shows no remorse for the actions with the league and you're expected to keep players (particularly star ones) safe by limiting these kind of events then I dont know why you'd let him play those games with those events still so fresh.

Obviously Kevin Lowe forgot to wine and dine Ken Campbell this past year and Campbell is letting him know it!

The best part of the article is that Campbell was a beat writer for the Maple Leafs and really has no skin in the game. So he’s calling it like he see’s it. Not like those shills up north.

Why is this not a bigger deal to people? He attempted to feed a vulnerable person multiple punches to the back of the head, that should be career as far as I'm concerned, absolutely abhorrent. Do we only care when it results in life altering injury? How is this better than the Bertuzzi incident in any regard? It looked markedly worse, just a better outcome for the recipient of the assault.

Jason Gregor (afternoon sports guy in Edmonton) is doing a hit on the morning show on 1260. He thinks Tkachuk maybe deserved 1 penalty, but was ok with no penalties on Tkachuk

Wants only a 2 game suspension for Kassian so he's available for the first rematch.

I take from that, he thinks 3 is fair or likely. He mentioned the earlier Nurse and Lucic suspensions.

A much more reasonable take than i expected.

I think they will give him 3 games so he misses the next BOA. He can't do what he did, those hits were far from dirty. I get why Tkachuk did it, he proved a point on how dumb Kassian is and how he didn't learn from the first hit to keep his head up back there. Honestly, the next time Kassian plays I hope Tkachuk does the same thing.

People were saying how different the outcry would be if that was McDavid, you know the difference? McDavid likely wouldn't be standing there staring at his feet/puck because he knows better. Tkackuk picked Kassian because it was easy pickings, predictable that he would explode eventually. I love it, look at the entertainment value he created, the team wins and it pisses off the entire Oilers team and fans while it elevates our engagement level and love for our team.

I'm so glad Tkachuk is ours, I'm so glad those others teams drafted busts before him in the same draft, I am so happy that he is a winner, a team player, a leader.

Screw the Oilers and their crappy team, see you in the press box next game Kass! You will only be missed because your team is worse with you on the ice.

My thoughts, he’s gonna get something. He attacked an unwilling to fight player aggressively and kept hitting him aiming to the back of his head with a clear intent to injure. I actually do accept and understand tolerance to mutually-accepted fighting in NHL. The game is very physical and emotions run high. Fighting sometimes relieves the steam built up in a game skewed by bad reffing and predatory behaviour (goons trying to hurt star players, for one example). Kassian’s attack was borderline criminal. After all concussion-related issues, NHL must make a strong statement by handing a solid punishment. 3 to 5 games would be appropriate, I think.

I think the Bertuzzi incident is exactly why the DPOS is involved. Notwithstanding that he had his helmet knocked off, which means he has to pick it up or leave the ice, he stalked and attacked a player from behind. At no point did he give Tkachuk an opportunity to accept any sort of challenge. Just like the Moore incident, you now have a player vocally saying he will target a player. For all the shills that being up Torres, this is more a Bertuzzi/Moore situation, which probably has the league on high alert.

I would be really shocked if he got 5. IMO, anywhere from a fine to 3 games.

That's a very good question.

What is the definition? I think each skate is a stride if I was to vote.

Been trying to figure out who Kassian looks like. Finally realised it's Lloyd from Dumb & dumber. How fitting
