Grand slam Expos. Dave Roberts baffling pitching choices haunts him.

The end of the line for Roberts. Kershaw probably should but that’s a tough contract to traded.

Yeah he has to wear this one.
Kershaw is usually pretty good in relief (3 runs in 9 2/3 inning before tonight) but you have to question going to him for one out then bringing him back out which is tough for a pitcher not used to being a reliever.
Leaving Kelly in for a second inning (and after loading the bases) which costs them in the 10th.
Just not good managing.

Fans were super pissed when Roberts walked back to the dugout.

There was a reason why there were the most 100 win and 90 win teams in MLB history this year. And then you get teams like the Twins making the playoffs because 3 teams in their division were utter garbage and fielding uncompetitive teams. I will always respect teams like the Cardinals more who field the most competitive teams they can and continually see forms of success.

The Astros are built exactly like the Cardinals, to be competitive in the long run. They did not dismantle a team to lose on purpose. They prioritized scouting, analytics and building a pipeline of prospects. That is not tanking. I don’t see that as the Astros gambling, that is being patient. What would you have done differently? I don’t see how you can admire the Cardinals and not appreciate how the Astros built their team.

You can spin it how you like, but a quick google search of “Houston Astros” + “Tanking” will pretty much prove my point. The Current Astros team was built on the back of 6 straight seasons where they averaged 100 losses in an effort to stockpile high draft picks. Now other teams are following suit. The Cards have 1 losing season in the last 20 years and are pretty much the model franchise in the MLB. So I can easily appreciate the Card’s for what the represent, not so much the Astro’s.

Well, hate the Astros all you like. They are probably the only team that can now seriously stand between us and another winter of unrelentingly arrogant Yankee fans.

Rays say Hi still. You know we have a chance to take down one of the best all time baseball teams ever assembled this evening. But ya no chance against the Yankees who we actually match up well against and doesn't have pitching depth like the Astros.

Back from some of the best games I have watched live in Tampa. What a display by the Rays to keep putting pressure on. The Trop was loud and fun and the boys were fired up. I'll be going back down for the world series

Only half serious comment, but with the murmurs of the Dodgers maybe wanting to move on from Kershaw, I wonder if the Jays take a look at him. He has 2 years left at 31 AAV. Jays have a ton of payroll space over the next couple years and the dodgers would likely be selling low to free up pay roll. Might be a great way to eat up regular season innings and snag a few more wins. And if it doesn’t work out his contract will be off the books in 2 years.

These short series do lend themselves more to an upset than the longer series will. Which is why the Dodgers get knocked, off, and the Astro's might be a bit more vulnerable. A team with more depth, will be able to last thru a longer series, but in a 5 game series you can try some abnormal things.
The Dodgers started Hill over Beuhler in Game 4...than tried using Kershaw in a role that frankly was not suited to him...plus rolled out Kelly for the 10th inning.
Than again it's a team with insane prospect depth...but didn't seem interested in beefing up the bullpen.

Rewatching the highlights and Rendon deserves a ton of credit for his homer. Kershaw put that in a great spot and Rendon just golfed it out. Roberts not pulling him at that point was simply mind bottling given his history. Seems like Roberts was way too emotional about trying to give Kershaw some kind of redemption moment, as if winning that series and then getting blasted by the Cardinals or AL winner would somehow make that moment meaningful.

Not an ideal start for the Rays. Stro’s have 3 runs in with nobody out in the 1st.
